Spring Energy Saving Tips
Energy Savings
  • Replace your existing Air Conditioner with a new, High-Efficiency model can reduce your cooling costs by 20%.
  • Keep your thermostat at 78 degrees.  You can save approximately an additional six to seven percent off your cooling costs for each degree above 78.
  • Get rid of Hot Air.  Use an exhaust fan to blow hot air out of your kitchen while cooking.
  • Close blinds, drapes, and shades during the hottest part of the day.
  • Use your microwave or countertop appliances for cooking instead of the oven or stove.
  • Turn your Water Heater down to 120 degrees.
  • Postpone laundry and dishwashing until nighttime to avoid generating extra heat.

Rumors About Your Comfort?
air cleaner

Myth:
If it's hot outside and your air conditioner is off, wouldn't setting the thermostat to the lowest temperature cool the room faster?

Fact:  Setting the thermostat to a colder than normal temperature is counterproductive - because it will cool to a lower temperature than needed and will use more energy in the process.  Plus, the room wont cool any faster.

Myth:  You are ready to replace your air conditioning system.  Wouldn't the largest size system get you the best kind of cooling?

Fact:  If your air conditioning system is too large it will kick on and off, attempting to reach the set temperature within your home.  It will also cost more to operate than if it were the correct size.

Myth:  If no one is home during the day, wouldn't you save money by keeping your air conditioner off during that time?

Fact:  Not exactly.  When you come home from work your air conditioner would have to start its own job, putting extra work on the system.  Of course you can adjust the temperature up when you leave during the day and lower it when you return.  (A programmable thermostat could do the job for you!)

Have you Come Face to Face with Suburban Coyotes?

air cleanerCoyotes are Taking - Over Many Residential Neighborhoods

The recent infestation of coyotes throughout the Denver Metro Area has many residents talking; and most don't have kind words to say.  By now, most of us have seen or heard coyotes in our neighborhoods during the early evening or nighttime hours.  While the majority of residents are frightened by their new "neighbors" and refuse to let their pets out at night, some have opted to feed them, making the animals feel more comfortable around humans.

Coyotes have taken the lives of many local pets but are now starting to turn aggressive toward humans.  Just a month ago a man was surrounded by three coyotes in Greenwood Village.  Before that, a coyote lunged at a thirteen year old boy who consequently, elbowed the coyote in the nose.  Clearly, these animals are becoming more comfortable around humans and for many that raises some concern.

Greenwood Village has taken an aggressive approach to rid its community from coyotes by outsourcing the problem to a local contractor.  Jay Stewart, of Animal Damage Control Wildlife Management Services, has been shooting Greenwood Village coyotes since last February.  Apparently shooting coyotes alone hasn't solved the problem because the city now has Stewart trapping the animals as well.  Animal rights activists warn killing coyotes is not a viable solution because more will move in from surrounding areas.

Wildlife specialists have warned coyotes can turn extremely aggressive during the spring and summer months when approached with their young.   Be cautious while on trails and when hiking and stay away from areas where coyotes are likely to den.  If you are approached by a coyote, make loud noises and throw rocks at the animal.  And most importantly, please don't feed these animals - they are already too comfortable around humans as it is!

Spring Tune-Ups
air cleanerSpring Tune-Up Specials at DALCO

The weather is starting to heat-up! Soon we will be spending our afternoons at the pool, watching children chase after ice cream trucks, searching for excuses to go to the golf course, and start turning-on our air conditioners and evaporative coolers.

While some of us might think this transition is as simple as the press of a button, it's important for all air conditioning and evaporative cooling systems to undergo seasonal maintenance to preserve their efficiency and reliability.  A Spring Tune-Up helps to ensure your central air conditioning / evaporative cooling systems remain efficient and reliable longer.

Our Spring Tune-Up includes cleaning the unit, inspection for leaks, and checking the unit's overall level of operation.  (Please see our full preventive maintenance list online).  In many cases, major repairs are avoided because they are caught during routine maintenance checks.  Spring Tune-Ups are a great idea for all homeowners looking to lower their operating costs while maintaining efficiency and comfort.

DALCO is currently offering a Spring Tune-Up Special at $139, a great investment for all homeowners.

Additionally, DALCO is now setting Saturday appointments at No Additional Charge for your convenience.  Call us to find out how you can add years to the life of your equipment!

Electronic Air Cleaners

Benefits of Electronic Air Cleaners

Whole-house air filtration systems are essential for all homeowners seeking to remove dust, pollen, mold, pollutants, animal dander, smoke, and dust mites from their household air.   Electronic cleaners trap and filter up to 98% of pollutants from the air as it passes through the heating and cooling system.  Electronic Air Filtration systems place an electric charge on all airborne particles and collect them like a magnet.

Whole-House Electronic Air Cleaners are convenient and only require minimal maintenance that can also be included in your yearly furnace tune-up.  Air Cleaners add to your energy savings by preventing dust and dirt from building up on your heating and cooling equipment and ensure your equipment runs at peak efficiency- maximizing the life of your furnace.

Once installed by your DALCO technician as apart of your central heating and cooling system, an Electronic Air Cleaner will give you the cleanest, healthiest air in every room of your home, giving you a greater piece of mind regarding your family's health.
