First Ever SBA Small Business Outreach

Tour of Michigan Arrives in Northern Michigan

The U.S. Small Business Administration, along with Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, is pleased to announce the SBA Small Business Outreach Tour will arrive in Northern Michigan the week of August 16th.  The tour is the first ever to be conducted by SBA and will connect small business owners to the help they need.

"The tour is a coalition of small business resources working in collaboration to provide information and assistance that directly impacts small businesses and their opportunity for business expansion," said Gerald Moore, District Director for SBA's Michigan Office.  "Each day's program is intended to highlight the resources available through the federal, state, and local agencies, as well as business organizations."

"The concept of bringing resource providers to local communities of small business owners is a dynamic way to foster economic development in Michigan," said Joel Schultz, Regional Director of the Upper Peninsula Region Small Business and Technology Development Center.

Experts will share their knowledge on exporting, financing, government contracting, social media, human capital, and financial management, and successful small business owners will share their stories at these upcoming tour stops:

                           Marquette                     August 16

   St. Ignace                     August 17

                           Gaylord                         August 18

                           Traverse City                August 19

Networking opportunities with the speakers and other attendees will be available during each stop.  There is no charge to attend, but seating is limited.  For registration information please click here.

Give BloodThe Upper Peninsula Regional Blood Center has issued a critical appeal for blood donations throughout the Upper Peninsula. Currently, there are critical needs for all blood types. Join War Memorial Hospital and the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce as we help to meet the blood needs of the Upper Peninsula.

The need for blood is great. Every day in the U.S., approximately 40,000 units of blood are required in hospitals and emergency treatment facilities for patients with cancer and other diseases, for organ transplant recipients, and to help save the lives of accident/trauma victims.

Volunteer whole blood donations to the U.P Regional Blood Center directly help a variety of people from a grandmother having heart surgery, to a child with cancer, to a young parent in an auto accident. If it matters to you how your blood donation is used, please consider donating to the U.P Regional Blood Center.

Each year a member of your family, neighborhood or community receives Blood Center products from 13 U.P hospitals.

Just one pint of donated blood can help save the lives of several people. Anyone who is in good health, is at least 17 years old, and weighs at least 110 pounds may donate blood every 56 days.

The U.P. Regional Blood Center is inspected and accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks.  AABB standards set the level of professional proficiency for blood banks in the U.S.  In addition, the Blood Center is registered and licensed with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a blood establishment.

Help us to make a "gift of life" donation of whole blood to the people of the U.P, schedule a donor day or blood drive at your place of business. Mention the code, Blood4UP when scheduling your drive and War Memorial Hospital and the Sault Chamber will post pictures of your business on their websites and social media outlets to acknowledge your support. Please call the U.P. Regional Blood Center at 906-632-1177.
