STATE LAWMAKERS TO TALK PURE MICHIGAN AT SOO MEETING

Area residents and visitors can learn and comment about a plan to support the Pure Michigan advertising campaign at a Feb. 5 pubic town hall meeting hosted by state Reps. Frank Foster and Wayne Schmidt during the Sault Ste. Marie I-500 festivities.

Schmidt, R-Traverse City, has introduced House Bill 4160 to allocate $20 million for operating the state's award-winning advertising campaign this year. Foster, R-Pellston, is chair of the House Natural Resources, Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Committee.

"The Pure Michigan campaign has been a bright spot for Michigan during our economic downturn," Foster said. "Investing in the tourism industry to keep visitors and out-of-state dollars flowing into our local communities and economies has helped provide jobs, and it's an effort we need to continue."

Also attending the meeting to discuss the importance of Pure Michigan are Leisa Mansfield, Sault Area Chamber of Commerce executive director, and Linda Hoath, Sault Ste. Marie Convention & Visitors Bureau executive director.

The meeting begins at 11 a.m. in the Crows Nest at the Walker Cisler Student and Conference Center on the Lake Superior State University.

For more information, contact Foster's office at 1-517-373-2629, or by email at frankfoster@house.mi.gov. People also can call the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce at (906) 632-3301.
