Haan Development Company has announced that they have successfully completed the purchase of the Masonic and Adams buildings in downtown Sault Ste Marie. This critical step will now allow for the total renovation of the two buildings to accommodate 24 housing units as well as approx 7500 square feet of commercial retail/office space. All financing has been secured for this historical renovation project.
Haan said; "After three years of working on this project we are finally at the point of starting the renovation. This would not have been possible without the strong support from the Mayor, City Manager, and City Council." The project named; Park Place City Center is being financed by using Brownfield tax credits, State historical credits, Federal historical credits, MSHDA financing, and HUD funds. "We have assembled a strong team to get this project completed; members include, UP Engineering and Architecture; Oakwood Construction Company, Michigan Historic Preservation Network, Tax Credit Capital, Steams Bank, and Michigan State Housing Development Authority" Existing business will remain open during the renovation period, and Haan hopes to recruit other local interests to occupy the remaining available commercial space.
