Dear Economic and Workforce Development Champion:

On July 23, 2009, Chris Holman, governor appointed Small Business Advocate of Michigan, will conduct a discussion forum to help determine what challenges small businesses in the Upper Peninsula are facing, potential opportunities that lie ahead and the resources they need to grow and succeed. The Forum will be held at the Joseph Heirman University Center on the Bay College Campus  in Escanaba from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (see details attached below)

UP small business owners and entrepreneurs are needed to share their ideas for improving the business climate in the Upper Peninsula Region and in Michigan. Please review the information and pass on to ALL Small business owners in your County. There is no charge for this event, however space is limited so I encourage you and your area small businesses and entrepreneurs to register early, conveniently online at www.jobforce.org

If we want to improve the business and employment conditions in Michigan and the UP it is vital that they hear from our area small business owners and entrepreneurs and their voices are heard and acted upon. This will be the only Upper Peninsula Small Business Regional Forum held in the UP this year.

For more information regarding the 2009 Upper Peninsula Small Business Regional Forum contact Lisa Broman at 800.562.4808 x232 or email lbroman@jobforce.org and to register on-line, visit www.jobforce.org

4th of July Parade!

Chamber sidebyside

Hundreds participated and lined the streets of Sault Ste. Marie as the Fourth of July Parade wound its way through downtown on Saturday. Those judging the parade concluded that these entries best represented the spirit of the holiday.

Best Walking Group: Northern Star Broadcasting
Best Float:  Academy of Performing Arts
Best in Show:  Cooks Standard and the Statute of Liberty.

Thank you to all who participated and helped the Chamber with your sponsorship.   Also thank you to Scott at Tanglewood Marsh for the golf cart loans and to Earl Kay for pick up and delivery!
Grand Opening
Super Wal-Mart!

As residents, we've all watched the construction progress at the south end of the I-75 Business Spur for the past year.  Well, its official, Super Wal-Mart will be celebrating their Grand Opening on Wednesday, July 15th at 7:30 a.m.

The Sault Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to join us as we help Wal-Mart's dedicated staff (those with 17+ years) cut the ribbon at their new location!

The new business development that this project will help to bring to the community is very exciting.  It sounds like you'll see a few more changes to the Business Spur in the next couple of years!
