United States
Senator Debbie Stabenow is no stranger to Michigan's UP.
A nationally
recognized leader, she is respected for her ability to build coalitions to get
things done for Michigan and our nation. Her recent appointment to the Senate
Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and membership on the Senate Finance,
Agriculture and Budget Committees, has given her a powerful and unique role to
play in shaping our nation's health care, manufacturing and energy policies, so
critical to our future.
She has won
victories for Michigan in the recent Economic Recovery package, in the passage
of her Green Collar Jobs Initiative and by making alternative energy a priority
in the Farm Bill. She was instrumental in funding new resources for advanced
biofuels and passing a new tax credit for cellulosic ethanol which are important
incentives for businesses creating jobs in the UP today.
As co-chair of
the Senate Health Care Quality and Information Technology Caucus and a member of
the Senate Rural Health Caucus, Senator Stabenow has been recognized for her
leadership in bringing innovative technology to rural communities, including the
Upper Peninsula. She is working hard to protect our lakes and forests because
she knows our local economy depends on it.
