23rd Annual International Bridge Walk
Giving locals and visitors a
bird's-eye view of the American and Canadian Locks, the 23rd Annual
International Bridge Walk will be held on Saturday, June 27th. Walkers
are invited to meet at the Norris Center on the campus of Lake Superior State
University, where there is plenty of parking.
Walkers are reminded that
the following documents will be required to enter the United States after June
1, 2009.
- U.S. or Canadian
passports;
- Trusted Traveler Card
(NEXUS, SENTRI, or FAST);
- U.S. Passport Card;
- State- or
province-issued Enhanced Driver's Licenses
- Form I-872 American
Indian Card
The walk begins
at 9:00 a.m and covers approximately 3 miles from start to finish,
ending in the west parking lot of the OLG Casino in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Be sure to bring your camera, as the view from the bridge is spectacular. Upon completion of
the walk, each participant will be given a special certificate. Buses will be
available to return walkers to the Norris Center, with the last bus leaving at
12:00 p.m. The cost for the bus ride is
$2 per person or $10 per family.
Walkers are always encouraged to
make the most of the kick-off of our mutual Independence Day holidays by
dressing patriotically. Patriotic
attire always helps to enhance the celebratory nature of this event. Whether you are adorned with a giant maple
leaf or stars and stripes, you are sure to catch the eye of the community, as
this is truly an international event.
The International
Bridge Walk is coordinated by a committee of volunteers and is sponsored by the
International Bridge Administration, the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce
(Michigan), the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce (Ontario), Oldies 93, Northern
Star Broadcasting and CTV.
