TREAT/FOOD ORIGINS

I want to thank one of my customers for providing me with a topic for this month. Thanks Gretchen!

As many of you know, the producers of some Pet foods and treats are not located in the US.  There are virtually no regulations on pet food outside of this country- even when they are imported in for a U.S. based company.

It is vitally important for the health of your furry friend to understand the risks involved when consuming foreign fare.  As we learned from the Melamine tragedy in 2007, ingredients are added to pet foods and can be reported to officials as something "normal" or edible.  In this situation, they said the ingredient was wheat gluten, but it was melamine.  Melamin is an organic based substance with many manufacturing uses.  However, it can also be illegally used to increase the protein content of food.  This substance is highly toxic.

I encourage you as pet companions to research the origin of any foods you feed to your fur friend.  If it doesn't say U.S. be very cautious.

I am including a link to a recent scare regarding pet treats.

I want to assure you that Carol's Pet Cafe only offers food and treats from U.S. based companies.  The threat of foreign substances in our pet's food still exists, even in this country, but the risk is a lot lower.

Please be safe, do a little research before feeding foods/treats to your pets.

I wish for you a wonderful, long future with your furry being.

To your Pet's Health!!!

Lilly, Bozworth
