 FOSTERING PETS
Some of you have had experience fostering many types of pets.  It is a rewarding experience, yet it requires time and patience.  The foster parent has to have the time to spend with the pet, the space, and the patience to see it through to its forever home.
Finding the right pet to foster is important.  You will need one that matches your energy and the energy of your homelife.  If you have other animals, it is important they they can live in harmony with the newcomer.
Some important things to discover about your foster pet:
1) Are they housetrained?
2) Do they shed a lot?
2) Are they aggressive around toys, food, you, others, etc.
3) Do they try to gain dominance by humping, biting the backs of other dogs, growling?
4) Do they learn quickly when corrected?
5) Do they walk well on a leash(if dog)?
6) Do they want to be by themselves or are they socialized, or cuddly?
7) Are they loving and seek approval from you?
8) Do they have a lot of energy or are they low key?
9) Are they prey driven and seek out squeaky kitties, birds, small dogs and children if they make noise?
10) For cats, do they scratch the furniture?
11) Do they like to play with a ball or other toys?
12) Do they easily get along with other dogs or cats?
13) Do they need a lot of exercise to keep them calm and stable?
14) Is their health good or do they have some physical or emotional issues?
15) Are they comfortable in a crate or are they anxious?

These are just a few questions to ponder when fostering a dog or cat and it is good to consider fostering with eyes wide open.  You will be the one to deliver these answers to the person seeking the foster pet in a forever home.  To make a good match between pet and future owner, get as much information that you can observe from your foster pet.
