Board of Directors Announcement

 

The AC Forum would like to welcome two new additions to its Board of Directors: Janet Delaney, MSN and Terri Schnurr, RN. As members of the Board, Janet and Terri will serve as advocates for the AC Forum and work to further the organization's mission and purpose to promote professional development and enhance the quality of anticoagulation care.

 

Janet has been active in anticoagulation for the last 8 years as a MSN, ARNP. Currently she serves as the clinical lead ANRP of Sarasota Memorial Hospital Anticoagulation Clinics. Janet believes in focused evidenced based medicine, utilizing guidelines and providing care to the whole patient. Her strengths and expertise lie in patient experience, patient safety and nursing care of the anticoagulation patient.

 

Terri has years of practice as a Thrombosis research nurse and for the last 14 years has served as a clinical research coordinator in Thromboembolism. Recently, Terri was awarded the Paula Jones-Wright Scholarship from the Canadian Chapter of ACRP for her commitment to research excellence. Terri has an in-depth knowledge of the "business side" of thromboemlism research, vast clinical experience in anticoagulating patients, and an interest and enthusiasm in furthering thromboembolism clinical care and research throughout North America.

Geno Merli, MD and Amir Jaffer, MD will be retiring from the AC Forum Board of Directors. The AC Forum would like to thank Geno and Amir for their years of service and dedication to the organization. During Geno and Amir's tenures at the AC Forum, we have experienced tremendous growth and expanded our influence to improve patient quality of care.  We are grateful for their contributions and leadership.

VDC Steering Committee Endorses THSNA

  

The Venous Disease Coalition (VDC) Steering Committee is pleased to endorse THSNA. The VDC is a collaborative network of professional and public organizations united by one mission to increase public and health professional awareness of venous disease. The VDC is a public and interdisciplinary consortium dedicated to promoting public and health professional awareness of venous disease.

 

THSNA is also endorsed by ISTH, the American Heart Association Council on PVD, ClotConnect, and co-sponsored by the CDC.

Announcement and Application for Scholarships for Nurses

To attend the Thrombosis and Hemostasis Summit of North America (THSNA)

May 3-5, 2012       Chicago, IL

 

Background:

The Foundation for Women & Girls with Blood Disorders (FWGBD), a partner in the consortium of organizations developing and hosting the new THSNA, has secured a grant to provide at least 8 scholarships for nurses to participate in the Summit and to obtain continuing education credits, provided by Boston University School of Medicine.

 

FWGBD and the consortium of organizations from the US and Canada are working together to plan the 2012 Summit on thrombosis and hemostasis. In 2010, the Foundation for Women & Girls with Blood Disorders, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, was launched to serve as a single site, single source of information for physicians and healthcare providers. Menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause present unique challenges in women and girls with blood disorders. Undiagnosed, untreated blood disorders in women and girls have medical consequences at every life stage. The Foundation's vision is: All women and adolescent girls with blood disorders are correctly diagnosed and optimally treated and managed at every life stage.

 

The Thrombosis and Hemostasis Summit of North America (THSNA) offers medical professionals a focused summit dedicated to both sub-specialties. The first-ever summit will bring together 1,200 leaders in hemostasis and thrombosis clinical practice, research, education, and patient advocacy.

 

Nursing Professionals' Scholarships will cover:

Reimbursement of air travel (coach)cost, as approved by FWGBD, and covering of hotel costs (4 nights @ double occupancy), registration fee ($275), and continuing education credits (16.75).

 

Application Process:

Each candidate must submit the following, via e-mail with attachments, to info@fwgbd.org credentials

  • affiliation and current contact information
  • up-to-date CV/resume
  • a statement of up to 250 words, describing how the Summit education sessions will benefit their practice and improve the care of their patients, both women and men with blood disorders
  • one recommendation from a senior (an established) member of the Treatment Center staff team

Requirements:

All successful candidates must:

  • attend the entire Summit, arriving on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012, departing late on Saturday, May 5th, 2012
  • submit a summary of sessions, key learnings, and how these will be applied to their practice. The summary is to be submitted with receipt for air travel cost, following the Summit
  • attend a special dinner/meeting during the Summit with the leadership of FWGBD, and other THSNA leaders, to exchange information about nursing education, including, but not limited to, education in the area of blood disorders in women and girls

Criteria:

Applications will be selected for funding based on strength of submitted materials, including the recommendation and utility for the candidate's practice and patients' outcomes; geographic diversity. An application review committee of hemostasis and thrombosis experts will evaluate all requests and select the finalists.

All complete applications must be e-mailed by February 15, 2012. Notification to all applicants will be e-mailed by the Foundation on or before March 5, 2012.

NCBAP Seeking Physician to Serve on Board of Directors

  

The National Certification Board for Anticoagulation Providers (NCBAP) is seeking to fill an open position on the Board of Directors with an interested physician who has expertise in the field of anticoagulation/antithrombotic therapy. The NCBAP mission statement is as follows: In order to optimize the care of patients receiving anticoagulant therapy, the mission is to develop, maintain and protect the Certified Anticoagulation Care Provider credential and the certification process. Board member activities include, but are not limited to, application review, exam development and maintenance, and general governing of the organization.

 

If you are interested in serving on the NCBAP Board of Directors, please complete the Indication of Interest form and return it to Marie Bussey at info@ncbap.org or by fax to 866-963-2588 on or before March 1, 2012. The Board will notify you by April 1, 2012.
