STEMNational Afterschool Association Back to Nebraska

Nebraska CLC Network members are working to re-launch the Nebraska Chapter of the  National Afterschool Association (NAA). The NAA represents over 7,000 out-of-school time professionals and 38 state affiliate organizations - 39 with Nebraska; and is the only national organization dedicated to the development, education and care of children during out-of-school hours. Each year thousands of afterschool stakeholders from around the country attend the NAA conference. This year it will be held April 16-18 in Orlando.

We are excited about the opportunity to bring the NAA back to Nebraska under the umbrella of the CLC Network. If you are interested in participating in a workgroup to help guide this process, contact Jeff Cole.

KearneyCLCPapillion-La Vista Kids Club Spotlight

Since 1988 Papillion-La Vista Kids Club has offered an out-of-school time program for K-6 graders providing safe, fun and educationally stimulating activities year round. Managed by the Papillion-La Vista Schools Foundation, Kids Club is built on a whole-child educational philosophy utilizing a project-based, experiential approach with guided and informal learning opportunities.

All Kids Club programs are licensed childcare providers. They operate in 14 school buildings during the school year and also offer out-of-school day and summer programs, including regular field trips.  Students must enroll each year and tuition is automatically deducted from a parent's or caregiver's bank account. Families receiving Title XX co-pays from Nebraska Health and Human Services can apply Title XX funding to program tuition costs and scholarships are available for families unable to cover program fees.

Papillion-La Vista Kids Club is a great example of a financially stable community-wide partnership between the schools and a public school foundation which provides parents with safe, convenient and enriching out-of-school time experience in the comfort of their child's school.
