Dear Prayer Partner,

This is the final installation of the ACTS acronym, which is "S".  "S" stands for supplication, which is to ask for earnestly and humbly as to pray to God.  The Greek word is δέησις, pronounced de-a-ses.  It means a seeking or asking to God or man.  In this context and verses, I will be talking about seeking God.

We have to be careful when we pray that we don't approach God with requests and wait for Him to answer our prayers according to what we believe will be best.  He's not a genie to fulfill our wishes.  Too many times, we treat God like that.  I have been guilty of that and I'm sure many of you, also, have been guilty of it.  We need to be so attuned to God that our prayers and requests match what he desires for us.  Here are some verses to memorize to use during your prayer time as a reminder to seek God's will in your life.

James 4:2-3: God is our provider.  "We ask and do not receive, because we ask amiss, that we may spend it on our own pleasures".  We need to honor and glorify God in all we do.  Don't ask for our own pleasures, but what does God desire.  Solomon asked for a wise and understanding heart and, in addition, God gave him riches and honor, but there was a stipulation.  What was it--click here and read what it was. 1 Kings 3:8-14.

John 16:23-24: Ask in His name.  We must have a surrendered heart to the Lord.  Look at Psalm 37:4, "Delight thyself in the Lord..."  Delight is to be happy about or take exquisite delight in something.  To take a phrase from J. Vernon McGee, to ask of the Father in Jesus name, when we aren't surrendered to him or obeying Him, is to try to cash a check that isn't made out to us.

Psalm 65:2: God hears our prayers. How do we come to Him--with a haughty heart or humbly before our God?  He wants to give us the desires of our heart, but what are our desires?  Seek your own heart and see what are your desires.

Next month I will review the ACTS acronym.  I do enjoy writing to you and receiving your prayer requests.  Please let me know how to pray for you, as James 5:16 states, "Confess [your] faults one to another, and  pray one for another...".  Let me know if I can share it with the staff or if is private.

A Blessed and safe day to all of you. Thank you again for your prayers for Brookes.  May you "pray without ceasing" in 2011.
