Dear Prayer Partner,
During this month, as I think of prayer, my mind goes to Luke 22:44 when Christ prayed and "his sweat was as it were great drops of blood". This can occur, rare as it is and the condition is called hematidrosis and is caused when someone is under intense stress. What intense pressure, stress, our Lord was under knowing that in less than 24 hours he was to die a horrible death for you and me. He knew what he was going to have to endure, but prayed to have the cup (the adversity he would face) removed from him, but stated "not my will, but thine, be done". Being fully God, He could have removed the cup, but being in complete harmony with the Father, He asked for the Father's will to be done and He knew what that would be. I can picture Christ praying and not being aware of anything around Him as He was in the presence of His Father. May all of us have that attitude when we pray--complete concentration on the one to whom we are talking, God. Pray and give thanks to God for the empty cross because that is why we have eternal life.
A Blessed and safe day to all of you. Thank you again for your prayers for Brookes. May you "pray without ceasing" in 2011.
