Picnic

Brookes is having a picnic on August 21, 2010 from 1-5 at Carondelet Park.  Click here for a map and the location (our pavilion is located on Grand Dr.).  Brookes will provide the meat.  Call or email the school for a reservation so we know how much meat to purchase.  When you call or email, we will ask you to provide either a side dish or drinks.  We are looking forward to this as we continue to celebrate Brookes' 100th Anniversary.

Brookes Seeking 100 Prayer Partners
Brookes is seeking 100 people to become a prayer partner with us.  We currently have 66.  We will send a monthly email to you with prayer requests.   We will not during this time ask for finances from you.  There may be a prayer request for funds, but you will not receive a solicitation for funds in this email.  It is strictly for prayer requests.  Please join us in prayer for Brookes.  Brookes started because the Christian community of St. Louis saw a need for a Bible Training School and through the prayers and gifts of that community, Brookes was formed.

This is not a one-way street as we would like to pray for you.  You can email your prayer requests or send them through the USPS to us.  We, also, have a tab on our website where you can view prayer requests from other people.  That tab does require a password, which you can request from us.

Graduation

Graduation this year was at Bayless Baptist Church and the Commencement address was by Dr. Mark Carpenter, who is the Pastor of Bayless Baptist and an adjunct professor at Brookes in History.  His charge to not only the students, but all of us was from Acts 20:18-27.  He had seven points:
Dr. Mark Carpenter
Mark Carpenter

     1.  God calls us to Himself.
     2.  God Empowers us to Ministry.
     3.  God Sends us.
     4.  God Leads us.
     5.  Promises to Protect us.
     6.  Emboldens us.
     7.  He is faithful--He will Bless us.

There were four graduates this year:  Sharon Brooks, David Nunley, Dwight Brinkley, and Tyrone Williams.  This year, also, was the debut of the Brookes Bible Institute ensemble and they lead the audience in the singing of the school song, Brookes B.I., written by Selma J. Nelson in 1922.

Class of 2010
A fellowship followed graduation in the fellowship hall of Bayless Baptist Church.  A big thank you to Bayless Baptist Church for allowing us to use their facility and to Dr. Mark Carpenter for his challenge.

Pray for these graduates, who either received a 32-hour diploma or a 64-hour diploma, that they would be able to effectively use what they learned at Brookes.  All of them have been a blessing to us.

2010-11 Academic Year

We are starting a new schedule in the fall as we are going to a trimester system.  (View 2010-11 Academic Calendar.) Currently, on our semester system, we offer a class every other year.  By changing to a trimester schedule, we will be able to offer our classes every year.  However, some of the classes that were two hours will be three hours, but the school will still offer two hour classes.  In addition, instead of 16/17-week semesters, the trimesters will be 12 weeks.

We are going to have a new addition to the school in the fall.  We are in the process of remodeling the back room on the first floor of the second building, 3463 S. Grand, to use as a student union/lounge.  We will have a small refrigerator with water/soda, a microwave, a coffee maker, and other items for students to use before and after classes.  We will have a ceremony to dedicate the room.  The monies for the room were donated in honor of a lady who had a heart for young people.

Later this summer or early fall, Brookes will debut our online store.  Shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, backpacks, briefcases, gym bags, etc will be available with the school logo.  The items will be shipped directly to your residence. An announcement will be forthcoming as to when the store will be online.

Brookes is going to Israel

Garden tomb

Brookes is planning a trip to Israel the end of 2010.  This may have been done in a previous year, but no record is found of a trip.  Click here to view the brochure, the daily itinerary, cost, and any other details.  Contact information is included in the brochure.

We would love to have you join us for this trip to the Holy Land.

Monthly Prayer Time

A number of years ago, Brookes would have a monthly prayer time on Sunday afternoons.  We have reinstituted this time of prayer.  We meet the third Sunday of every month from 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM.   We had six at the Prayer Time on May 16 and the devotional was given by Rev. Jim Brown of Eureka Bible Church.  He spoke from Titus 1:5, Gal. 2:1-3 and 2 Tim. 4:10 about Faithfulness in Service concentrating on the man Titus. We had a joyful time in prayer and fellowship.

Please join us for prayer on Sunday, July 18, and in the following months.  We will not have one in June as the third Sunday, June 20, is Father's Day.  I assure you the hour spent in prayer and reading the Word will be a blessing to you.
