Greetings!

You may remember the picture above.  It was taken at summer camp last year.  The local government in Crimea offers summer camps for "at-risk" children.  "At-risk" is defined as living in a home situation that puts them in danger of being removed and assigned to a state institution.

Although we are a Christian organization with a Christian messge, state officials like our work so much that our staff is hired as counselors for the camps.  There are very few restrictions on the lessons we can present.

Last year there were 150 children in two camps.  Our staff already had relationships with half of the campers.  And, they built relationships with the other half by the end of camp.

Plans for this year's camp are being finalized.

Don't grow weary.

Summer Teams

Both summer camps will be visited by a short-term team from the US.

Crimea is a vacation destination for much of Eastern Europe, especially Russia and the former Soviet Union.  Summer camps are a big attraction for families.  Children attend all kinds of "theme" camps- academic, sports, beach and others.

The state-sponsored camps aren't the most exciting or attractive.  That's one reason we like to schedule an American team to spend time at camp.  Having real Americans at camp trumps all those other themes.  Our kids have a bragging point that no one else can top.

It's not too early to begin planning a trip for next year.
