Greetings!

This will be a combination May newsletter and final report from my recent visit to Ukraine.

The work in Ukraine seems to always be in some kind of transition.  This visit was no exception.

One foster family's rented home is now for sale.  They are preparing to make another move on short notice.  This family actually had to move twice last year.  Rental agreements are never secure in Ukraine.

Galya, Pilgrim's director, has married and her home is no longer a transitional living center.  She and her husband are moving to Feodosia to be part of a church plant.

Vika, our translator, is expecting her second child any day now.  She is very nervous and asks for prayers.

The political and economic situation remains a mess.  It is really too involved to cover here.  The newly elected government is very pro-Russia.  And, the economy is a major concern.

Don't grow weary.
Charles
Misha and Sasha

Mischa GudvilMischa lives in one of our sponsored foster families.  He and Sasha performed for us during our visit.  The video of their performance is at www.ukrainetrip2010.com.  Mischa sings a couple of songs and plays a classical guitar piece.  Sasha sings a song that she is performing in a regional competition.  They are very talented.

This family moved twice last year and now their rented house is for sale.  Contract law, especially regarding rent agreements, is a concept that hasn't caught on in Ukraine.

Work team needed

DD FoundationIf you look closely you can see that a concrete footer has been poured for the front entrance to the Dyetski Dom building.  The plan was to dump "filler" material from the rest of the construction work so wouldn't need as much concrete.  Obviously we were very effective in collecting the fill material.  Now we need to finish the job.  Ukrainian law severely restricts the work that can be done by foreigners.  This job qualifies.

Anyone got a team looking for a project?

Newlyweds
Galya and RomaGalya and Roma were married on March 27th.  Although I wasn't there for the wedding, I did have the opportunity to see all 500 pictures.  They had just returned from their honeymoon and were eager to hear my comments about each individual photograph.

Roma has been working with the street patrols at Pilgrim.  He fit in very quickly and the children enjoy having him around.

Galya and Roma are very happy together, but we are all sad to see them leave.  They will be moving to Feodosia to be part of a church plant in that city.  Replacing them will be difficult.

The newlyweds have asked for your prayers.
