Three close friends.
These girls just finished a city run in downtown Simferopol. I'm not sure what the cause was, but the backs of their shirts contain information about Project Sasha (Pilgrim) and an invitation to visit.
Two of the three are sisters. They live with their mother and ten other siblings. Their father was murdered. They are regulars at Pilgrim and say it is the only place they can go that is quiet enough to do homework.
They traded their red Pilgrim shirts for blue John Wall shirts later and took part in a video. They even learned the John Wall dance. You can see the video at John Wall Dance. |

Sleeping (?) it off.
You can see a teenaged boy sleeping on the hot water pipes of Simferopol. These pipes carry water for heating the large buildings in the city. They can get hot enough to burn you without that insulation.
We found this young man on one of the regular street patrols. He is so strung out on glue that he was passed out by five o'clock in the afternoon. Our staff knows it's glue because this boy doesn't have the money for drugs.
By the way, he is sleeping under a well used train track. I have difficulty sleeping IN one of the trains. But, the ones passing just a couple of feet over his head don't even cause him to stir.
At this point, all they can do is let him sleep it off and pray that he will be safe and responsive to their invitations when they see him again. |
