Playful Pooches and Parents dog training

My Vision and Mission Statement:

to coach owners and dogs to live better together

in harmony and balance.

Dear great dog owners,

Have a great Fourth of July! Keep cool and safe. Make sure your dog is secure and safe during fireworks. Most dogs don't like and some even hate the noise and flash of fireworks. This is the  biggest day for dogs to run away and get lost because the fireworks scare them so much and they don't know what else to do but run.

I am closed for classes Tuesday 7/3, Wednesday 7/4 and Thursday 7/5. And just a reminder if weather is iffy and you are coming to a park class, check Facebook (Playful Pooches and Parents) or call me 939-dogs (3647). If class is cancelled, I will put that message first. Storms, tornadoes and recently excessive heat may cancel class so check first.

Keep working through the hot weather, just make your training sessions and walks shorter. Keep them hydrated and cool. Baby pools are a great idea for your dog. Put in some ice cubes and you got a chill place for your pooch.

If you have an issue or problem that can not wait till class or may take a few minutes, feel free to email, call, or Facebook message me. I may not be able to answer right away as I now teach 26 classes a week but I will get back to you as soon as possible.  Don't wait till you are very upset or ready to give up your dog. That's what I'm here for. I'm glad to help and get you and your dog back on track once again.

Have a great and happy 4th!

Woofs to you and yours,

Lydia

What Every Dog Should Know

mac
Three commands that every dog should know is STAY, COME and LEAVE IT. These could save your dog's life one day. It only takes a couple minutes a day of practice to get your dog on the right track. Take a moment now and run over them with your dog. Make sure he can do them everywhere, anytime for anyone. If you need more help, join a class of mine, return to a class of mine or I'm offering a Back to Basics Bootcamp next week. See other box for more info. Practice, practice, don't risk your dog's life for a few minutes a day.

The Saga of Sage

Since it is Sage's birthday this week I thought I'd tell you a little about him. He will be 6 years old on Friday. He started out with me at 4 mos old. Story goes that he is part wolf. He was very socialized and very well trained in my classes. But I did not know a lot about wolfdogs when I adopted him. Some people call them hybrids but that is a misnomer. A hybird is a cross between species.Dogs and wolves share the same sub-species so they are closer than you think. He's a good dog but sometimes will take issue with one dog in class so you don't see him very often in class. I do counseling for people that are looking to get a wolfdog so I can tell them what it will be like for them. For example, if it doesn't work out for them-where can you go with them? You can't set them loose in the woods, they are too domesticated. You can't take them to a shelter, they would put them down or not take them at all. All the wolf sanctuaries are full of wolves and wolf dogs that people thought would be good pets. I'm committed to keeping Sage for his whole life but make no mistake, most can't be trusted to be free in your house without you EVER. That's just a bit of life with wolfdogs.

Canine Good Citizen
simon
Congrats to our two new Canine Good Citizens! Dusty and Simon. Both tried very hard and tried several times to pass but finally did. Simon is pictured to the side and he passed his Canine Good Citizen after being scared to death by a thunderstorm which wigs him out tremendously. Great teams! I'm proud of you all. You too can earn the Canine Good Citizen. Go to www.akc.org then to Dog Owners. Work hard like Dusty and Simon and their moms and you too can earn the award CGC!
