The Place For You and Your Dog to Succeed!
My Vision and Mission Statement:
To coach dogs and their owners to better live together in harmony and balance. |
Dear Great dog owners,
Finally, finally, finally I'm feeling better. My voice doesn't sound like it yet but I think the flu/cold/virus is almost done with me. Thanks for putting up with my raspy voice. Hopefully my own voice will be back soon. I'd hate to sound like Rachel Ray for the rest of my days.
Spring will be here before you know it. I'm excited about some new classes I'm starting. Also about my huge Level 2 class in Anderson. I've had to open another Level 2 class to help even the classes out. We have Mondays at 6pm, Mondays at 8pm and Wednesdays at 7pm. You can come to any one of them and you can change weekly if you want. I know it is hard to get individual attention in so big a class so hopefully this will help the situation.
Another reminder: make sure your dog's collar is secure. We had another incident of a dog slipping out of his collar this week. The owner was a seasoned dog owner and thought quick and got him back without harm but she was lucky. Use a martingale when your dog steps out the front door. You won't be sorry.
Helping you and your dog succeed,
Lydia
P.S. I promise a Congrats section next time. Lots of Congrats-great owners and dogs to recognize. |
New Park and Learn Class
I'm very excited to announce a new training class called Park and Learn. It is primarily for graduates of my Adults/adolecent classes who want to continue training. Exceptions will be made. It will be located at local parks in the area. Some parks on the East side include: Otto Armleder Park, Woodland Mound, Stanberry Park, Julif Park and Short Park. Some parks on the West side include: Winton Woods, Sharon Woods, Triple Creek, Heritage Park, Colerain Park and Glenwoods. It is $10 a class, you pay as you go. I will give a 10% discount for classes paid in advance. You will need a park sticker, 20ft and 6ft lead, sturdy shoes, water and dish.We will practice what we have learned in class in more distracting places and add lots of new stuff. First class for Anderson is March 28th at 5:30pm at Otto Armleder Park in the field to the right of concession building. First class for Animal Ark is March 29th at 6:30pm at Winton Woods Harbor Point to the far left in field. You will see me there. Hope to see you. |
The Martingale Collar-Why I love it
You know how I feel about choke chains, prong collars and e-collars. Pain is not a good choice for training any animal let alone a dog that will be a family pet. The Martingale collar is a great alternative. An added and probably most important benefit is the no-slip feature. Your dog's head goes through the big loop and your leash attaches to the ring in front. The small loop tightens if your dog pulls making it almost impossible for your dog to slip it's collar. It's important to have the right fit for best results. It will not hurt your dog and may save it's life one day. Check them out. They come in various colors, fabric and widths. I love them and use them on my dogs. |
Why Can't You Be More Like Oreo?
This is me, Michele and Oreo a few Christmases ago. As you all know, we lost Oreo Nov 11, 2008. I am still so sad over his death. I loved that dog. We had a lot of history together.
I'm sure all of you have had a dog that was so neat and so wonderful that no other dog comes close. It makes it hard for the next dog because they can not live up to the best dog ever. We keep trying to make them into the past best dog ever and we just can't. There will never be another Oreo but that doesn't mean future dogs in my family are doomed. They will be loved for themselves. Their attributes, their handsome good looks, their lovable faces, their obedience (or not). We will have really good times together that I will remember forever. It's hard to let go of old memories. And you really don't have to but just don't try to make your new dog into your old dog. |
Memphis needs a Hero!
I just have to share this with all of you. Memphis is a dog at Save the Animals Foundation. He has been there a long time, like 3 years. He has been through 20 weeks of my training with a dedicated volunteer and passed his Canine Good Citizen test. Still he waits for his forever home. His mentor and guardian angel Kristin Waters made this video for him. Pass it on to someone who might be interested. And have some kleenex handy for it is very touching. That's all I'm going to say. Let the video speak for itself. And there are many more like him at STAF and many other shelters around our city. Waiting and waiting.

The Power of the Positive
I know you hear a lot about Positive Thinking. Norman Vincent Peale wrote a ton of books about it. There is a lot of truth to it. Thinking positive thoughts about your dog and his training can really help you succeed. Let me tell you why.
Your attitude is everything. What you think is what you are. If you hold great thoughts about what your dog can do, he will accomplish it. If you think he is stupid, stubborn, lazy, and other negative thoughts, he will be. It's all in what you hope and dream and think about your dog.
Dogs pick up on our energy. Be positive. Visualize your dog doing the command you are asking. It will happen. I have a cute little board and train German Shepherd puppy and from the first moment I knew he was very smart. He has now learned 24 commands in 3 weeks. I also have a client that always says her dog is stubborn. And she is. But the owner has that vision stuck in her mind and that is all she sees.
Keep success in your mind. Visualize it. Hold a picture of you and your dog succeeding in your mind always. And you will. And your dog will. And it wouldn't hurt to read some Norman Vincent Peale books. They're really inspiring and POSITIVE! Just what we need in these negative economic times. He will make you smile and help your dog training too. |
