Good morning!  This week the nation of Haiti sustained one of the most devastating earthquakes in history.  Reports at this point tell us it will be literally months before officials can even estimate the death toll accurately.  This is the last thing this impoverished nation needed at this point.

Ironically the district assembly for the Church of the Nazarene in Haiti was scheduled to begin as the earthquake struck.  General Superintendent, Dr. J.K. Warrick had just arrived to lead the assembly when the tragedy occurred.  Thank the Lord, Dr. Warrick is now safely in Southern Florida where he continues to provide leadership in the massive response to the people of Haiti.

It is in times like this I am so grateful that I am a part of the Church of the Nazarene that not only speaks of a concern for lost people around the world, but our church responds.  When we participate in World Evangelism Fund and other missions giving through the denominational connects we are making a direct difference in the lives of people in Haiti and around the world.  This should encourage us to continue our faithful support of this vital ministry in the church.

You are certainly wondering how we can further respond to the overwhelming need in Haiti.  This Sunday morning I will be speaking briefly about our opportunity to respond.  You will be given the opportunity to give to this cause directly.  If you are able to give over and above the tithe I can assure you anything you can do will make a great impact.

Wednesday evening the small group ministry launched for the new year with a record number of people attending.  Groups ranging from New Believers to The Truth Project occupied rooms throughout the church.  The Festival of Discipleship was a great success last Sunday with many people signing up for these discipleship groups.  If you have had the opportunity to sign up and join one of the many groups that meet each week its not too late.

Sunday morning I will continue the message series "Reflecting Greatness" from the Book of Nehemiah.  This week we look at the principles Nehemiah utilized to overcome opposition and adversity in carrying out God's mission for his life.  Sunday evening our children will be participating in the service before I preach.

Have a blessed week!
