FOCUS ON COURSE:

Health Unit Coordinator - Open Enrollment!
Course Description:
This course is designed to prepare the health unit coordinator student to facilitate the activities of people in a health unit to work together smoothly and harmoniously in a common action, which is the delivery of health care to patients. Students will learn management of information, communication, medical terminology, critical thinking and cultural diversity. Students will learn to transcribe physician orders.
Students with skills in health unit coordinating will be prepared to work in a variety of health care settings.

Certification Note: Upon successful completion of the program students will be eligible to take the national certification exam administered by the National Association of Health Unit Clerks/Coordinators (NAHUC).

Pay scale - $25,000 to 35,000.  Wages depends on location and demand.

Hours: 60

Prerequisite:  None

Price:  $312.50 (Does not include NAHUC Fees)

Comment: We believe that health unit coordinating will be a profession that is attractive to the new wave of health care workers. A recent Health Care Advisory Board analysis of the number of inpatient beds needed to care for our aging population indicates that we will face a shortage of beds in the future. The analysis indicates that the need for beds is growing every year. These additional beds will increase the number of health unit coordinators needed in the workforce.

Medication Aide 100 hour course (South Dakota)

Approved by the South Dakota Board of Nursing, this course is designed to teach the safe administration of medication to health care workers.  Students are trained to give routine medications to patients in all healthcare settings.

We Care Online instructors will work in close cooperation with the facility instructor.  We Care Online Instructors will monitor the online didactic portion of the course while the facility instructor will teach the clinical portion.  Student information and progress will be shared and discussed as needed.

This Medication Aide course curriculum consists of 60 hours of didactic training, which will include work in a skills lab and/or simulation facility, in addition to 40 hours of supervised clinical practicum.

Facility information: Your facility must currently be able to conduct Medication Aide training. You will need to submit a curriculum change to the State Board of Nursing for the We Care Online curriculum.
