February Action of the Month: Lobbying for BGLT Equality
Each month, the UUA implements robust action campaigns that aim to engage congregations and individual UUs.  Actions of the Month will focuson accomplishing concrete policy objectives that reflect our faith values.  Visit the UUA's Social Justice page for more information.

Join UUs across the nation in Lobbying for BGLT Equality. Visit your Representative or Senator's district or national office and ask them to support BGLT equality by working on the following issues: Repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell; supporting the Employment Non-Discrimination Act; Marriage Equality; and stricter Hate Crimes enforcement. Unitarian Unviersalists have a long history of supporting BGLT equality and we hope you will continue to offer your support.
Happy February!
I read my horoscope two days ago and it said February is going to be a pretty stellar month for me! Much of the good fortune it predicted, however, was contingent on my own efforts to improve my own daily existence. And so I ask you: what changes have you made or are you going to make in your own lives, in order to actualize the best possible results on a daily basis?

This month our association provides many opportunities for young adults to participate and be in community around many social justice issues. They can make huge changes for themselves and our larger organization, just by being present! The Allies for Racial Equity conference is an amazing gathering for UU anti-racist allies to talk about white privilege and how to be effective and empowering allies in our work to fight racism and oppression. Also check out Interweave's Convocation and the International Convocation of UU Women. Scholarships to the ARE and Interweave conferences have been made available from the Young Adult Ministries Office, so ask them if you need financial assistance to get there.

This month, the UUA Office for Advocacy and Witness in Washington is spending their time and energies lobbying for GLBT equality. Give them a call to ask how you can help, or better yet--think about what effect you can have in your school or place of work. How can you use your voice to live your UU principles and bring this social justice issue to the attention of people with whom you interact on a daily basis?

Do the members of your church go above and beyond to make your search for a spiritual home a top priority? Whether you attend church regularly in a building or online, consider nominating your congregation for the Anchor Congregation Award. We give this award annually at GA to any congregation that meets our application qualifications! Read more below.

Whether you attend these events, pick up trash on a walk through the park or smile at 10 strangers on Valentine's Day, try to find opportunities to take a deep breath, practice gratitude for all your blessings and find ways to make this country and world a little better, just by being yourself.

Namaste,
Nancy DiGiovanni.
Changes to the Bridge Connections Program for 2009
The Bridge Connections program helps keep young adult Unitarian Universalists connected to Unitarian Universalist communities and campus groups when they go off to college, get their own apartment, or start a new job. Thank you to the hundreds of congregations who have participated in the Bridge Connections Program in the past! This year, building on past results and feedback from congregational and district leaders, we will be implementing some changes in the program in order to increase its reach and effectiveness. This month, all UUA member congregations will receive a program packet in the mail that includes information on the revised program and postage paid reply cards to give to their senior youth. Other congregations (such as Canadian Unitarian Council member congregations) can participate, too; email youngadults@uua.org. Bridgers will also be able respond online. For more information on the Bridge Connections Program and other resources on ministering to youth entering young adulthood, visit http://www.uua.org/leaders/leaderslibrary/leaderslibrary/47778.shtml or email youngadults@uua.org.

Anchor Congregation Applications due April 1st
The Anchor Congregation program, introduced in 2004, recognizes congregations that have made a significant commitment to young adult and/or campus ministry. This award is aimed at institutionalizing strong, congregationally-based young adult and campus ministry programs across the continent. The Anchor Congregation designation recognizes congregations that have made a substantive commitment to young adult and campus ministry, and which serve as a model to other Unitarian Universalist congregations seeking to do young adult and campus ministry. For more information on the program, to see a list of current Anchor Congregations, or for an application, visit http://www.uua.org/leaders/leaderslibrary/yacmanchor.

ARE Conference 2009: March 13-15, Kansas City, MO
The annual conference for Allies for Racial Equity provides opportunities for UUs to come together in a multigenerational learning environment to develop skills and analysis so that we might participate in dismantling white privilege and undoing racism.

This year's theme is Identity. Together, we will explore issues of white identity, look at what it means to identify as a white anti-racist ally, learn about ways in which identities and oppressions intersect, and discuss how to be white allies in multiracial coalitions.

The formal conference program begins at 6pm on Friday, March 13, and ends with worship at All Souls Church on Sunday, March 15. Early workshops will be held on Friday for those who can come early and who wish to engage in more in-depth work. These workshops will begin at 10am and run until the beginning of the conference at 4pm.

Registration Costs and Scholarship Information

Registration for the full conference will cost $110 for non-students and $75 for students (including youth, college students and seminary students).
