December Action of the Month: Pictures of Peace |
The UUA's Action of the Month for December 2008 is Pictures of Peace. Throughout the month of December and into 2009, Unitarian Universalist congregations across the United States are invited to create pictures of peace in intergenerational arts and crafts time. Congregations are encouraged to hand-deliver the pictures to their elected official's local office and to submit digital copies to the UUA for use at General Assembly.
Congregations are also urged to read and discuss the rough draft for the Statement of Conscience on Peacemaking. This year, the Commission on Social Witness requires at least 25% of UU congregations approve of the Statement of Conscience being voted upon by the General Assembly. Your congregational feedback helps us reach that crucial goal. For more information on the project along with resources on how to organize an in-district lobby visit and UU peacemaking, please visit the Action of the Month Page. | |

Ministry to Youth and Young Adults of Color |
Welcome to the first column for Ministry to Youth and Young Adults of Color. This new ministry is charged with advocating for and supporting Unitarian Universalist youth and young adults who identify as people of color. One responsibility of the ministry is to create programs for leadership and identity development. Another responsibility will be to focus on anti-racism/anti-oppression/multicultural education and systems of accountability in congregations, districts and UUA staff.
In the coming months, I will work with leadership of Diverse Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries (DRUUMM), districts and congregations to host workshops and trainings. So if you are active in your congregation or district and want to host a training or workshop please contact me. Also, if you are a UU young adult who identifies as a person of color I would love to hear from you. Living My Faith, Rev Monica L. Cummings D.Min. mcummings@uua.org (909) 753-4450 |

AFSC Mexico Summer Project 2009 |
The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) is seeking motivated volunteers for the 2009 Mexico Summer Project that will run from June 25 to August 8, 2009. This is an opportunity to learn about diverse cultures and experiences and to learn ways to address the political, social, ecological, and economic challenges of the present and the future. The project is carried out in collaboration with Servicio, Desarollo, y Paz, A.C. (SEDEPAC), a prominent Mexican non-governmental organization. AFSC and Quakers in Mexico launched the program in 1939. In developing and implementing the 2009 Mexico Summer Project, SEDEPAC and AFSC will work closely with Unidad Indígena Totonaca Nahuatl (UNITONA), an indigenous development organization in the area.
