About MPI

The Montana Policy Institute is a free market think tank focused on Montana issues. We provide credible nonpartisan expertise and analysis to help Montanans advocate for policies that are based on a respect for individual freedom, an expectation of personal responsibility, and the idea that government intervention should be an avenue of last, rather than first, resort when addressing public policy challenges. Happy Constitution Day!

"The Constitution is the guide which I will never abandon"

Those words from George Washington have never rung so true, as our basic Constitutional principles have been abandoned and even ridiculed by those who see government as the solution to every problem and provider of every need.  He also said:

"Government is not reason, it is not eloquence,

it is force;

Like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master.

Never for a moment

should it be left to irresponsible action"

At MPI we're working to change lives by empowering Montanans with information and ideas that take us back to our Constitutional principles of freedom, responsibility, and limited government.

We hope you'll join us in celebrating our Constitution on this special day.

MPI Sues For Government Pay Info

It's simple. Taxpayers have a right to know what they pay their employees.  The state won't tell us, so we're taking the only recourse the law allows and suing them for it.
You can see what we've found out so far at our OpenGovMT.org website.
We're Gathering the Goods For Our 2012 Pork Report!
Pork Title

Our 2010 Pork Report was a huge hit and we're getting started on the 2012 edition.
The report is a one-stop shopping guide to state government and should be mandatory reading for all taxpayers.

We're analyzing data and going through the budget line by line to weed out and expose excessive spending in the Big Sky state, along with ideas on how to restore fiscal sanity.

If you have any tips or ideas about what should be in the next Pork Report  - or if you want to help us put one on every dining room table in Montana - email us here.
Be sure to check our Health Care Resources page for tons of articles, studies, and policy papers, and the latest arguments for repealing ObamaCare.

And head to our Global Warming Resources page to get past the hype and see what real science is saying about climate change and the impacts of bad policy.

Do you like charts? We have charts!
chart

We've put together a page where you can find a collection of charts, graphs, and other links showing big government's takeover and the impact it's having in every area of our lives.

We also have links to lots of other sites with even more impressive and useful information!

MPI's very own, Nick Schwaderer, reports on the prominent  issues using the latest cutting edge media.

Some of Nick's picks might be a little 'out there' for us seasoned folks, but he's reaching the young people we need to help inform and activate for freedom.
