Greetings!

Upwards of 40 percent of all land in the United States is already under some form of government control or ownership-approximately 850 million acres out of America's total 2.2 billion acres.

The government now appears poised to wield greater control over private property on a number of fronts and Montana will not be spared.

Policies such as The Forest Jobs and Recreation Act, The Clean Water Restoration Act, and local growth management initiatives threaten Montana's traditional way of life and make no economic sense.

But it's not enough to complain. As citizens we need to be aware of the importance of these matters in order to preserve our freedom and promote our well-being as a society. MPI and PERC are pleased to bring national, state, and local experts together for a discussion of these issues and to provide practical alternatives to help restore property rights in Montana.

We look forward to your company at what promises to be one of the most important policy events of the year.

PERC - the Property and Environment Research Center - is the nation's oldest and largest institute dedicated to improving environmental quality through markets and property rights.  Formed more than 25 years ago, PERC applies economic thinking to environmental problems.

MPI - the Montana Policy Institute - equips Montana citizens and decision makers to better argue for state public policy options that respect individual freedom, expect individual responsibility, and see government intervention as an avenue of last rather than first resort.
