Youth Poet Laureate Finalists Performing at Art & Soul
 

Teen Poet Laureat 2012 FinalistsThe public will have an opportunity to see the seven finalists in Oakland's innaugural Youth Poet Laureate competition this Saturday. The poets will share original verse and spoken word pieces at the Art & Soul Festival on Saturday, August 4, from 5 to 7 pm on the City Center Stage. Come out cheer them on and appreciate their impressive talents!

Summer Reading  Culminates with Party at Oakland Museum
 
The 2012 Summer Reading Program draws to a close this Sunday with a big party at the Oakland Museum of California. It's free and all are welcome.
 
The party will feature fun entertainment and activities for the entire family. It is part of the Museum's Free First Sundays program.
 

 
Sunday Jazz Continues at Golden Gate in August
 
The Golden Gate Branch's annual Sunday Jazz series continues in August, with free performances every Sunday afternoon. All performances will be held at Golden Gate Branch, 5606 San Pablo Ave, with the exception of August 19, when the performance will be held at Temescal Creek Park (at 47th and Adeline).

MLK Branch Re-opening August 18
 

After undergoing renovation work that closed the branch for several months, the Martin Luther King Jr. Branch will re-open Saturday, August 18. Come visit this much improved branch! A party will be held on September 1 - details forthcoming.
