Rockridge Branch to Host 2011 PEN Oakland Literary Awards
Saturday, December 10 ,2 to 5 pm

Join Oakland's literary community for the 21st Annual PEN Oakland-Josephine Miles National Literary Awards. The ceremony will be followed by a reception and book signings. Free and open to the public!
The 2011 PEN Oakland-Josephine Miles Literary Award Winners are as follows:
- The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives by Lola Shoneyin (Fiction)
- 14 Fictional Positions by Eric Miles Williamson (Short Story Collection)
- The Etiquette of Freedom by Gary Snyder and Jim Harrison (Dialogues)
- Indivisible: An Anthology of Contemporary South Asian American Poetry edited by Neelanjana Banerjee, Summi Kaipa, and Pireeni Sundaralingam (Poetry)
- Sacred Sites: The Secret History of Southern California by Susan Suntree (Poetic Narrative)
- Inner Cities of Gulls by J.P. Dancing Bear (Poetry)
- Madness at the Gates of the City: The Myth of American Innocence by Barry Spector (Non-Fiction)
- Red Willow People by Devreaux Baker (Poetry)
- Ass's Tale by John Farris (Novel)
Wikileaks and Carole Simpson are the winners of the 2010 Censorship Award.
Adam David Miller (pictured) will receive the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Make a Holiday Gift!
Kids can come to the library and make a surprise gift for a friend or family member. Instructors from the Museum of Children's Art will be on hand to help. This program is scheduled at these locations:

The Bookmark Bookstore Holiday Hours
The Bookmark Bookstore, operated by the Friends of the Oakland Public Library, is open during the holiday week except for December 25 and January 1.
Located in Old Oakland, the used bookstore is staffed by volunteers and all proceeds benefit the Oakland Public Library.
