New Branch Opens January 29!

Books arrived for the new branch on December 15.
Books by the palate-load were delivered to the 81st Avenue East Oakland Community Library on December 15.

All are Welcome to the Grand Opening of the 81st Ave. East Oakland Community Library

Please join us as the Oakland Public Library celebrates the opening of the 81st Ave. East Oakland Community Library. The newly constructed library will open to the public with a dedication ceremony, featuring entertainment, children's activities, and fun for the entire family, on January 29, at 11 a.m.

The new library is good news for East Oakland. At 21,000 square feet, it will be the largest branch in the Oakland Public Library system. It will also be the first joint public library-school facility in Oakland. Thanks to its sustainable design, it will also be one of the city's first newly constructed municipal buildings to be LEED Silver certified.

The new branch is a beautiful, environmentally friendly building.
The new 81st Avenue Library

The library will be open to the general public and serve as the school library for the two adjacent schools, Acorn Woodland Elementary School and EnCompass Academy. It will feature children and teen areas, an Internet cafe, copy center, an adult (quiet) reading room, community meeting room, a computer lab, multi-media classrooms, and WiFi connection.

Even if you can't make it for the Grand Opening, drop by any time to experience this beautiful new library.
