Make a Splash in this Year's Summer Reading ProgramAs they have done for many years now, the Library and the Oakland Museum of California are joining forces to put on a big party in celebration of another summer of reading.

The Summer Reading Splashdown, in the gardens at the Oakland Museum, marks the end of this year's Summer Reading Program with a full afternoon of fun. The party takes place in conjunction with the Museum's First Sundays event - admission is FREE for the Summer Reading Splashdown and the museum (the highly anticipated Pixar Art exhibit is now on).

Families attending the event can participate in face painting, making ice cream sundaes, trying creative engineering projects with Play-Well Lego TEKnologies, creating watercolor masterpieces with MOCHA, and joining activities with the Lawrence Hall of Science. Elmhurst Branch Provides Bus Passes to Help Kids Get to Other Branches

Despite the temporary closure of the Elmhurst Branch, kids who live near the branch have been able to participate in this year's Summer Reading Program at other branches. Thanks to efforts by the Friends of the Elmhurst Branch and funds from Councilmember Larry Reid, kids wanting to take the bus to a nearby branch have been able to do so for free, with complimentary 10-ride AC Transit passes.
