What is the
Song in Your Heart?

hearts with music - smallerWhat if the answer to one question could change your life? What if the answer you've been waiting for is already inside of you, and all it would take to let it out is a simple question and the permission to answer it from your heart?

Last July, a very wise and intuitive person asked me a question like that. She asked:"What's your juicy dream?"

It was a simple enough question, but for some reason, it hit me hard and moved me profoundly. And I gave myself permission to answer it from my heart.

A bit of important context: For those of you reading who do not know this about me, I am a singer and have been singing all my life. A product of the 60's and 70's, my siblings and I grew up singing along with the Carpenters and Osmond Brothers and Jackson Five and Linda Ronstadt and Don McLean and Roberta Flack and many others. In high school, college, and beyond, I played leading roles in musical theatre productions, and for many years I have been singing classical music, primarily in churches. I still love to sing all the old songs I grew up with, and a lot of newer music, too. Singing fills my soul in a way nothing else can.

But back to the inspiring question: Before I knew it, this wise person's question prompted me to talk about my singing, and to tell her about my very first voice teacher who motivated me as a teenager by cheering me on right in the middle of big, sustained high notes. Her words were: "Yes ma'am, that's it, GO, GO, GO!! DON'T HOLD BACK!!!

Have you ever felt that amazing feeling of not holding back? Of letting every part of you pour into whatever you were doing? Maybe it was music or sports or speaking or writing or any other kind of creating. If you've experienced it, as I have through singing, you know how invigorating and inspiring that feeling is.

Like so many people, perhaps many of you reading this, I've been holding myself back. Playing it safe, doing what is familiar and comfortable. Remembering and re-living the story of my first voice teacher made me keenly aware of this, and it made me understand that I am capable of much, much more.

"My juicy dream," I told my wise friend, "is to stop holding back. To expand to my limits, to step into all that I can be, to bring inspiration to hundreds, maybe thousands of people. And to do that not just through coaching and speaking and writing, but somehow through singing as well."

And my wise friend said to me, "You know, Kathy, the reason you have this song in your heart is because people want to hear it."

And I knew then and there she was right. And that not only did people want to hear my song, but they needed to hear it. They needed to hear it so they might be inspired to listen to and release their own songs, to stop holding themselves back, and to become all they were intended to be.

And that night I sat at my computer and created a 30-minute presentation, completely from a place of divine inspiration, which I call "Releasing the Song in Your Heart." It combines my gifts of speaking and singing in a powerful message about listening to your own song and letting it out for the world to hear.

I've had the opportunity to share this presentation with three audiences so far, and as a result, many people are telling me about their own dreams, the "songs in their heart," and how my message is inspiring them to act on those dreams. One person told me of her dream to write stories about her family, especially her grandfather, and the lessons she has learned along the way. Another person told me of a children's book he is writing with an incredibly creative way to teach kids the most important values they need to learn. Yet another shared a dream of teaching large groups how to build and grow their businesses in a way that gives them joy. I've heard dreams of learning to play an instrument, learning a language, taking exciting vacations, and many others.

As I continue to hear these stories of people moved to open up their hearts, let their "songs" out, and realize their dreams, I am inspired to share this message with more and more people, and I am asking for your help in allowing that to happen.

New on my website is a short video excerpt of "Releasing the Song in Your Heart." (Click here) Please watch it, think about who needs to hear the message, and forward this email on to them. If you are connected with groups or event planners who are looking for a presentation to inspire people to realize their greatness, please tell me about them so I can share my message with them. This might be motivational conferences, leadership conferences, church conferences, professional groups, women's groups, or any number of organizations. And if you have any other ideas for me, please share those as well. I am most grateful for any help you are willing to give.

Lastly, I encourage you to give yourself permission to answer the question, "What is the song in your heart?" Are you singing it? If not, why not? What dreams are inside of you that you aren't letting out? And what is keeping you from releasing them? How might your life change if you allowed yourself to sing your song?

If I can help you answer this question, please let me know. I would love to help you in any way I can.

Thank you, and Happy New Year! May it be your most amazing year ever.

~ Kathy
