Making Meaningful Connections
Do you ever have the feeling of just being on fire with energy? That is the way I've been describing myself this month! Why? Because of new connections I've recently made with several amazing people. They are inspiring me, motivating me, validating my gifts, lifting me into my creative zone, and all in all, re-energizing my belief that anything is possible.
So who are these amazing people? They aren't famous or mega-millionaires, but they are successful in their businesses, and they, like me, are working to expand their spheres of influence. They are motivational speakers, intuitive coaches, spiritual teachers, experts in maximizing strengths, sales consultants, strategic planners, and business coaches. They have great ideas and energy to share, and are eager and willing to learn from me as well. The connections happened through a variety of ways - attending a class or seminar, making a phone call, reaching out in a networking meeting or speakers meeting, asking questions about exciting things in others' lives and finding out more, recognizing when someone needed a lift and sending them a note, and so on. Besides being extraordinarily valuable, these connections had two things in common - they were easy to make and they were free. All I had to do was reach out and make them. And the impact they are creating in my life is absolutely priceless. Part of my vision for 2009 and beyond is to think much bigger, and to explore how to bring my gifts to more people in new and better ways. It's not possible to realize this type of vision without making meaningful connections. In fact, I can't imagine achieving any vision without making meaningful connections. But here's the thing - these connections started with me expressing a genuine interest in someone - who they are, what they do, the impact of their work. I wasn't trying to get any particular benefit for me, and I didn't ask for their help. I was just trying to connect. And guess what? They offered help, suggestions, ideas, ways for us to collaborate, ways we could grow together. And that's what we're doing. And it's awesome. Who are you connecting with? How are you expressing interest in others and opening yourself up to whatever possibilities might be out there? You know the saying, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten." When we connect with others, opportunities we may never have even imagined begin to open up in our lives. So if you haven't made a meaningful connection in a while, how about doing something different? Make a new connection this week. You never know where it might lead. Happy connecting! ~ Kathy
