NETHERLANDS | 2011 Minimum Salary Levels for Knowledge Migrants Announced
 

 

The Dutch immigration authority (Immigratie end Naturalisatiedienst, or "IND") has announced the new minimum salary levels for Knowledge Migrant Programme (highly skilled) applicants for 2011.  The minimum salary level for the Knowledge Migrant Programme is adjusted every year after input from the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment.

 

New Minimum Salaries for 2011

  • Highly skilled migrants under 30: €37,121 (up from €36,801 in 2010)
  • Highly skilled migrants who completed their studies in the Netherlands €26,605 (up from €26,376 in 2010) 
  • Highly skilled migrants age 30 or older: €50,619 (up from €50,183 in 2010).

Who Is Affected?

 

All new applications where the Machtiging Voorlopig Verblijf (MVV) approval application (the first step for the Knowledge Migrant Process) is submitted after 1 January 2011.  For cases where the Machtiging Voorlopig Verblijf (MVV) application us submitted before 1 January 2011 but the actual Knowledge Migrant Residence Permit application is submitted after 1 January 2011, the 2010 minimum salary level will apply.

There is no need to adjust existing salaries, although applications for renewals of Knowledge Migrant residence permits must meet the new salary levels.

 

Can Per Diems and Allowances Be Included?

 

The gross annual income of the applicant should meet the specified minimum salary level.  Allowances for housing and foreign salary adjustment may be included as long as these are guaranteed and stated in the employment contract.

  • Note that new applications under the Knowledge Migrant Programme must meet the new salary criteria from 1 January 2011.
