Congratulations Hartland!
|
The second winner of Waukesha County's Recycle MORE Challenge is the village of Hartland. By increasing their recyclables collected by 29%, Hartland residents have reduced greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to removing 541 cars from the road
for a year. They also earned additional money for their community through the sale of the recyclables. The village of Hartland will have several choices of prizes, including a park bench made from recycled milk jugs & portable recycling bins to increase recycling in public places. You can see how your community compared on our website. Encourage your neighbors to recycle more and your community could be our next winner!

Electronics Recycling Legislation Needs Support
|
Senate Bill 107, recently introduced by Senator Mark Miller, requires
manufacturers of video display devices, computers and printers sold to Wisconsin households to assume responsibility for the collection
and proper disposal of electronic devices. Legislators need to hear from their
constituents who support this legislation which provides funding and
infrastructure for collection and recycling of computers and televisions, and
relieves local government (i.e. taxpayers) of the burden and cost
associated with these programs. Learn more about Senate Bill 107 here.

| Recycle your...Rainwater? |
Rain barrels are an old fashioned idea making a big comeback. A rain barrel simply captures your rain water and stores it until you are ready to use it. Rain water is naturally soft water that is great for watering plants, and washing cars and windows. The average homeowner can save about 1300 gallons of water over the course of a summer by using a rain barrel, and that adds up to savings on your water bill.
So where can you get a rain barrel? Waukesha County has barrels and Rain Reserve diverter kits available at Retzer Nature Center. Vist our website for more information about rain barrels. |
| Free Blue Bins!
|
A local study shows that people recycle more when they have adequate storage for their recyclables. To help residents, Waukesha
County is making free blue bins available to participants in the
county's recycling program.
Get an updated list of locations and times at our website. Also, if you know of any community events to distribute free residential recycling bins, please contact our office and we can make the bins and educational brochures available to the event sponsor. Community events, pancake breakfasts, and school functions like open houses and parent-teacher conferences are great events for blue bin distributions.
For more information on which
communities are participating, what to recycle, holding a distribution at a community event, and where to get a bin, visit www.waukeshacounty.gov/recycling
or call the county recycling office at 262-896-8300.
