Vision for a Community Yoga Studio
Many first come to yoga for stretching or relaxation, yet find that yoga offers a beautiful stretching and relaxing in the heart and mind. This relaxing into ourselves allows us to see what is real and open to our innate sense that we are more than this body and this mind. Many people have shared this simple yet profound discovery with me over the year. The questions "who are we" and "why are we here" are often the questions that prompt us to look deeper and yoga is one path to self-discovery and transformation. The ancient sages have known the deep benefits of yoga for centuries. In the Sri Krishnamacharya tradition (master teacher of BKS Iyengar, Sri Pattabhi Jois and TKV Desikachar) yoga is said to be the blossoming of spirit through awareness, self reflection and connection to that which is highest. And, as my teacher Gary Kraftsow says with casual urgency "we are here but a blink of an eye- if we want real transformation in ourselves and the world there is no time to waste and Yoga can be a powerful tool on the path of transformation". A path, say ancient sages, that can lead to true peace and freedom or Kaivalya, as it is called in Sanskrit, in body, mind and spirit! I envision Yoga Mountain Studio to be a place where we honor our chosen path and celebrate exactly where we are in this moment. It's a place for you to show up as exactly who you are (happy, irritated, exuberant or tired), experience yoga, open to insights and to integrate what you have learned about yourself in your life. Through yoga we not only stretch our hamstrings but also discover our true nature, as the yogis say, which is pure, radiant and divine! I bow to the deep well of wisdom we have inside of our core and humbly hold space for the perfect unfolding of each of us on our paths as they cross here at YMS. Many blessings! Sienna Smith
