Dear Friend,
April is my favorite month; this year it's Easter, the 40th Year of Earth Day, and ofcourse my birthday too! I recently learned that April is also National Stress Awareness Month, along with National Poetry Month and National Jazz Appreciation Month. Needless to say, I'm jazzed about all of it.
In this issue of Illumination, I provide tips and tools to relieve stress; a Mother Earth poem; TWR Offerings in April - June; personal perspectives in Mineral Musings, plus Helpful Resources. I trust that you'll find information for inspiration and action.
Welcome new readers, clients and friends! |
| Tips to Reduce Stress |
| April is National Stress Awareness Month |
Individually and collectively, most of us are stressed. Be it taxes, family, job, technology, the economy or environment, we're facing issues that we perceive are beyond our ability to cope or control. Or we feel threatened or anxious about the unknown. Over time, too much stress can be mentally, physically and emotionally damaging ___ provoking unhealthy behaviors such as junk food or shopping binges, excessive smoking or alcohol drinking. Stress can bring on colds and flu, high blood pressure or depression. Stress that persists over years creates conditions that make our body more vulnerable to illness, or exacerbate conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, ulcers, and more...
Although we can't change conditions or circumstances, we can change our attitudes toward them. We can also use proven stress-relief strategies and self-care practices to handle stress more effectively. Here are a few tips:
1. Learn to notice your stress signals and become aware of your own reactions to stress
2. Learn to say "no" graciously and more often to create healthy boundaries for yourself
3. Avoid reading, watching or listening to the news
4. Tend to your priorities and avoid procrastination that can lead to overwhelm
5. Eat healthy meals daily. Eat fresh, organic, live foods and eliminate processed foods
6. Exercise consistently; walking, swimming, bicycling, dancing, tennis, hatha yoga, tai chi
7. Practice relaxation techniques such as deep, slow breathing or meditation

Mother Earth
generous and resilient,
supporting life upon your belly
.....since the beginning of time
nourishing plant, animal and human life.
Is time running out?
Excessive abuse pollutes your body, your blood and very breath,
global warming causes climatic conditions well beyond our control,
seizing the comfort and security of your embrace.
Are the droughts, fires, floods, earthquakes and endangered species
just the natural cycle of creation and destruction?
Or is it indeed human ego, folly and greed that are the true source
of accelerating devastation, intensifying decline?
Is time running out?
We are in this thing called life together.
You flourished long before our arrival,
And now our ways threaten your survival.......and our own.
What will it take for us to heed your warnings?
to reverse this course of self-destruction,
to respect you with reverence and appreciation,
to restore practices of harmony and peace upon and within.......

Our Legacy
I recently concluded that I'm a lifelong learner enthusiastically participating in teleseminars, webinars, conferences, workshops; attending cultural arts performances; and actually reading books___all experiences that deepen my awareness and stimulate my imagination. and Now, more than ever before, I want to share what I'm learning to inspire and uplife others.
Another reflection is how much I enjoy and appreciate being in the presence of someone who is truly living their purpose and passion to the fullest. They radiate a palpable energy and enthusiasm and it's crystal clear that they're doing exactly what they were put on earth to do!
Who do you know that is a gift to the world, sharing their gifts with the world?
This leads me to the question: What legacy do I want to leave? How do I want to be remembered? It's a provocative question that I'm posing to you as well. What is the legacy that you're creating now, as you live your purpose and share your gifts? Please share your thoughts with me.
