Autumn 2009 Illumination
Appreciating Autumn, The Season of Change
Change is essential for growth.  If we are to grow and we must grow to be alive, we learn to go with the flow, allowing the lessons along the way to strengthen us.  No matter the weather of our daily lives,  we sway, we climb, we dive, we bend___ , and if we lose a branch or two in the winds of change, we know that new growth is taking place.  We can rejoice kinowing that new growth is occurring, signaling that we are indeed alive.

With Autumn upon us, trees  begin to change creating an amazing array of colorful foliage that eventully drops to the earth; red, gold, orange maple and oak leaves carpeting the earth.  Yet it's harvest time when the fruits of our labors are most abundant.

What have you to harvest and celebrate at this time?

Are you willing to let go of something to allow space for new growth?

How are you experiencing this change of season in your life?

Practicing Authentic Love

Multicultural Engagement in Tanzania, East Africa - Feb. 2010

                 waterlily     fall nature pathway

At the beginning of the year, President Obama invited Americans to engage in community service.  It was a call to extend the grassroots organizing efforts that fueled his winning campaign to another level to empower and uplift others, so that we could all live our full potential in community with others.

It is this theme of community service that has become the core and center of Multicultural Engagement in Tanzania: Practicing Authentic Love.  We are partnering with the United African Alliance Community Center (UAACC), founded by Pete and Charlotte O'Neal in 1991 in Arusha, Tanzania through which we will share our gifts and talents directly with Tanzanian youth and adults.  UAACC was founded for the purpose of providing programs and projects for the enrichment of the Arusha community, both urban and rural---and also to promote closer ties to communities in America, particularly African-American communities.  Their motto is "Sharing Knowledge through Community Development".

Over the years UAACC has developed organically in response to the needs of the communities it serves.  They offer classes in computer literacy, English, the visual and performing arts, design, sewing, handicrafts, film-making, yoga and sports. Moreover, due to an expressed need in the community, The Leaders of Tomorrow Children's Home was created in December 2008.  There are currently 18 children, ages 4 to 9 learning life-sustaining skills, exploring the wonders of the world while maintaining ties to their village communities.

In addition to quality community service with Tanzanians, we will spend time in Maasailand, enjoy an excursion to Arusha National Park in the foothills of Mt Meru, view the wildlife, experience cultural performances, plus shop and purchase souvenirs.

Multicultural Engagement in Tanzania: Practicing Authentic Love is scheduled for February 15 - 27, 2010.  Organized with www.edgeofworldretreats.com , www.thewrightresort.com  and www.uaacc.habari.co.tz,  this sacred site journey promises to be an enriching, inspiring and life-changing adventure.  We are very excited and grateful to offer this unique experience of Tanzania.  Please join us......To ensure your place on this tour, please email: info@edgeofworldretreats.com or call 619.887.6720 for deposit and payment plan information, as well as pre-travel programs, international travel requirements and actual day-to-day travel itinerary in Tanzania .

Mid Summer Highlights

In August, I traveled to Colorado to co-officiate the wedding of two friends, Bobbie Will and Merl Wallace in Larkspur, near Colorado Springs.  It was a small outdoor gathering of family, friends, fun and festivities----truly a joy for me to engage guests in the Dagara Medicine Wheel, values and responsibility of community, and the shrines that I installed around the home and gardens.  With elements of Scottish, West African and other metaphysical traditions, a merry, magical and memorable time was celebrated by all!

I also reunioned with dear friends with whom I had worked in Africa.  At their Denver home, a gallery of African artifacts, I shared information about the upcoming trip to Tanzania with their friends.  I was treated to a day in scenic Rocky Mountain National Park and a highly informative tour of downtown Denver; Five Points, where I visited the Black American West Museum, and newly-redeveloped neighborhoods within Denver.

I look forward to a return trip to Colorado to experience more of its scenic splendor, metropolitan treasures and generous hospitality.
