What's the Thermal B.P. of your Hybrid Heat System?
The thermal balance point is the outdoor temperature at which the maximum output of a heat pump exactly matches the heating load of the space. As the outside temperature drops below this point supplemental heat is required.
We have recently received many inquiries on what is the best temperature to have a heat pump shutoff and a furnace turn on in a Hybrid Heat application. The answer is usually a few degrees above the thermal balance point, which is sometimes called the comfort point. However, if the economic balance point is higher than the thermal balance point then you would want to use economic balance point temperature instead.
So what is the economic and thermal balance point of a particular heat pump? The answer is; it depends. The balance points are different for every situation and depend on the heat load of the space, as well as the electrical cost/kw, and the gas or l.p. cost/therm.
Fortunately Wrightsoft and Carrier have developed an online tool that automatically calculates the thermal and economic balance point of your Hybrid Heat system for you. You can access this tool at:

New items stocked at DCNE
We are excited to announce that DCNE will now be stocking the following units:
24ABB3 - This is a 13 Seer Base Series Puron unit that is priced very closely to our current R-22 Base Series options. This model gives our dealers the flexibility to sell R-410A to price conscious consumers or builders.
24ACB4 - This is a 14 Seer Comfort Series Puron unit that when combined with an indoor unit that contains an ECM motor, will meet the new Energy Star standards and will most likely qualify for utility rebates.
58MEB - The 58MEB is the new Carrier Boost furnace, which is a single stage gas condensing furnace with an ECM motor. This unit is priced slightly higher than a normal single stage furnace, but qualifies for the $400 GasNetworks rebate allowing you to sell a quieter, more efficient furnace for less money than a standard single stage furnace. This furnace also has the capability of Boosting the systems SEER rating by as much as a full point.
