What to expect from this training:
Course Curriculum
- The Disease model of addictions (medical model) ASAM justification
- Myths that interfere with treatment and assessment concerns
- Introduction to co-dependency issues: why the co-dependency model will not work for victims or batterers. What treatment methods do work!
- Co-occurring illnesses: effects of substance abuse on the victim and children
- Lethality concerns, additional assessment, and case management needs
- Collaboration with community resources and accountability- System Accountability and compliance with State and Local licensure requirements
- Implementing effective treatment measures that work for batterers who abuse substances
- Obstacles victims face in accessing shelter with substance abuse issues (alternative solutions)
- Assessment tools and interview skills
- Utilization of Drug and Etoh screening/Toxicology labs
- Monitoring, compliance QA/QI, measuring instruments
- Avoid Collusion!!!!! Establishing effective rules and defining program relationship
- Court relationship- What to say and what not to say in legal correspondences. The danger of Successful vs.TX requirements. How to measure TX compliance. Abstinence, violent free environments, and follow up.

Who should attend this Workshop?
This training is targeted specifically for those individuals who:
- Work with clients who batter
- Work with families impacted by family violence
- Are interested in becoming a state approved facilitator and/or certified assessor.
- Facilitators/certified assessors seeking to refresh their perspective and receive annual continuing education or contact training hours
What to expect from this training:
- Gain knowledge of the latest statues, laws and policies affecting both victims and perpetrators of domestic violence
- Gain understanding and accountability measures in the role of the facilitator with regard to victim contact and safety planning, the importance of referring victims to a certified domestic violence center for intervention, and understanding collaboration
- Lethality Assessment - stalking, substance abuse, and mental health
- Gathering additional material on the effects domestic violence on children
- Recognizing the need to understand diversity, how to become more cultural competent, and modified interventions to reach special populations - elderly, disabled, language barriers, and people of color, gay/lesbian, and juveniles
- Understand how to utilize the power and control wheels, and effectively use curriculum to enhance your facilitator skills within the group setting.
