Young Friends of HHLT Organize Hike and Picnic on Saturday, October 6
The Hike and Picnic fundraiser, organized by the Young Friends of HHLT, promises to be a fun celebration of the Hudson Highlands region, its beautiful scenery, and great local food and drink.
Beginning at 11am, guests will gather at Winter Hill for a self-guided hike (about 90 minutes roundtrip) to the sites of the North and South Revolutionary War redoubts, which have exceptional views of the Highlands. If you're not a hiker, bring a blanket, relax on the grounds and enjoy lawn games until the party starts at 12:30.
Event sponsor Newburgh Brewing Co. (http://www.newburghbrewing.com) is supplying their locally brewed beer. Pizza will be served from a '52 Chevy truck by Pizza Luca (www.pizzaluca.com). Other local goodies and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
Our thanks to Annelie Berner, Lily Foster, Mike Rauch, Nate Berner, Sarah Bates Johnson, Timothy Roberts and Caitlin Watterson for their enthusiasm and dedication.
There is still time to buy tickets online for $10 off the gate price. Visit http://paperless.ly/TF03y9 for more info and to order tickets. Admission is $40/person online, $50/person at the door. |

Visit Winter Hill During Open House on Sunday, October 14, 2pm-6pm
The owners and tenants of Winter Hill invite you to a grand opening celebration on Sunday, October 14, from 2:00-6:00pm.
Built in 1891 and an elegant example of the historic Tudor Revival style of architecture, the building has served as a spiritual and cultural center in the Hudson Valley 120 years. The 29 acres surrounding the building include woodlands and a sweeping lawn, which continues to be a popular sledding destination in winter.
The beautifully restored site is now home to HHLT, the Garden Conservancy and the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival. We have already begun using our new larger space to host children's education programs and other events, and are excited about the possibility of future collaborations with our new neighbors.
We all look forward to welcoming you on the 14th.

Owls are the topic for Sunday, Oct. 14, at 2pm.
Families will meet a live owl from the Museum's collection. A Museum environmental educator will talk about these nocturnal raptors and their fascinating natural history.

October is one of the very best months of the year for hiking.
The weather is cooler and less humid, visibility is generally better now than in summer, and the trails of the Hudson Highlands offer spectacular scenery. October is also a birder's delight as migrating birds make their way south, down the Hudson River flyway. So, grab a walking stick, a pair of binoculars and dress in layers to enjoy the best that autumn has to offer along the Hudson. |
The Hudson Highlands Land Trust is a community-based, non-profit land conservation organization dedicated to the protection of the natural resources, rural character and scenic beauty of the Hudson Highlands. |
