Don't Miss the FUN!
Register for HHLT's Family Festival Today

HHLT's Family Festival on Saturday, June 9, has become a community-wide start of summer tradition that you don't want to miss! We'll have great live music from 4:00 to 7:00pm with Philipstown's own tiki daddy and friends, a delicious BBQ dinner, raffles with terrific prizes, and fun outdoor activities for adults and children.

This year's wildlife presentation features Atka, the Wolf Conservation Center's Arctic grey wolf. The center's program includes an awe-inspiring, up-close encounter with this important but misunderstood predator.  Family Festival guests will learn about the history of wolves in the United States, the importance of wolves in a healthy ecosystem and the efforts to save these magnificent creatures for future generations.

The Festival raffle includes great prizes donated by the Army Athletic Association, Baily Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, Hudson Valley Outfitters, Jean Marzollo, New Directions Dog Training and Supplies, Vikasa Yoga & Pilates Studio, and more. After the day guests leave, the fun continues for families "Sleeping Over Under the Stars." The community campout on the premises includes an evening sing-along, morning breakfast (featuring fresh eggs from Horsemen Trail Farm) and a few fun surprises.

Family Festival tickets are $15/individual or $30/family in advance ($20 or $35 at the event).  Campers must pre-register.  Campout tickets cost $55 and include festival admission, BBQ and breakfast. Email us at info@hhlt.org or call (845) 424-3358 to reserve your space.  Or you can fax a reservation form to us at (845) 424-3483.

The festival is being sponsored by Butterfield Realty, LLC, and hosted by the Philipstown Community Center and Open Space Institute Glennclyffe Property.  All event proceeds go to the Garrison Children's Education Fund and the Haldane School Foundation in support of environmental programs.

Ahoy, Volunteers: Riverkeeper Hudson River Sweep Sat., June 2

Join HHLT Board Member James Hartford, the Cold Spring Boat Club, Cold Spring Kayak Club, Building Bridges Building Boats and Little Stony Point Citizens' Association this Sat., June 2, from 8:00am to 1:00pm for a kayak cleanup of the Cold Spring waterfront.

Teams will be launching from Little Stony Point, Dockside and Foundry Dock Park.  The cleanup has been planned to coincide with high tide for ease of access, so please be prompt.

Volunteers should have safety gear (life vests, sun hat, sun screen, drinking water and snack, sturdy shoes, whistle or signaling device) and be prepared to work with a "buddy."  Work gloves and bungees or lashing to safely tow bags or trash will also be useful.

Please register with Riverkeeper so the organizers have a better sense of how many to expect and have enough water and refreshments on hand. Contact James Hartford at james@riverarchitects.com if you'd like more details.

Farmers Markets Open for the Season

Farmers markets add flavor to the communities they serve, and those located in the Hudson Highlands are no exception.  Browse the stalls to find inspiration in the fresh produce, cheeses, meats, breads and baked goods you see.  Chat with vendors for serving hints and recipes.  Beyond the wonderful social experience of shopping at a farmers market is the benefit that the food you buy is packed with more flavor and nutrition than items purchased at a super market.

And, when you buy locally grown and produced foods, you're supporting a vital sector of this region's economy.  Visit your local market--we guarantee you'll find something delicious!

Cold Spring's Farmers Market, Saturdays, 8:30am to 1:30pm, moved outdoors mid-May

Cornwall Farmers Market, Wednesdays, 11:30am to 5:30pm, opened May 30

Putnam Valley Farmers Market, Fridays, 3:00pm to 7:00pm, opens June 22

West Point Town of Highlands Farmers Market, Sundays, 9:00am to 2:00pm, opens June 24
