Last Call for Bike Map Sponsors

We are in the final design updates for the new Lake Tahoe Bikeway Map (formerly called the Lake Tahoe Bike Trail Map) for 2012/2013.  And, we are building the marketing campaign and distribution reaching from Santa Barbara in the South to the Oregon border in the North, and including the Central Valley and the Tahoe/Reno/Carson region.  50,000 hard copies of the map will be printed and distributed free to the public.  The Map will also appear online - which can be downloaded and printed free by visiting www.Tahoebike.org (a web site receiving more than 1.5 million hits annually).

The Map is highly sought after by bicyclists, hikers and visitors to the region because of its user-friendliness, convenience, and inclusiveness of the most popular paved and unpaved bikeways and trails in the Tahoe Basin.  It is made possible by grants, donations and sponsors who include, but are not limited to the following contributors as of this publication:  Nevada Commission on Tourism, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization, Tahoe/Truckee Transportation Management Agency, Kirkwood Mountain Resort, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, Alpen Sierra Coffee, Nevada Bicycle Advisory Board, Bike The West, League to Save Lake Tahoe, South Shore Bikes, Olympic Bike Shop, Heavenly Sports, Lakeside Inn and Lakeland Village.

Businesses, organizations and agencies interested in extending their brand reach and creating connectivity to fit active adults who have the discretionary income and commitment to experience a healthy lifestyle in Tahoe should immediately contact Ty Polastri at BikeTahoe@aol.com to express their interest in participating in this two year effort to get more visitors to Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe area lodging properties interested in being part of the bike map must immediately contact Ty Polastri at BikeTahoe@aol.com to receive the information packet and be considered to participate in this two year marketing campaign.

Tahoe Bike Challenge is June 4-15, 2012

The 7th annual Tahoe Bike Challenge: Work - School - Play has moved its dates later in the season to increase the probability of comfortable riding conditions and to get more people out to ride to work, school and recreationally.  In the past, the event has been held during the last two weeks in May to coincide with the National Bike to Work Month.  But with repeated cold snowy conditions the past two years, the Coalition (with overwhelming support by bicyclists) has decided to move the event to the first two weeks of June for better weather and to coincide with June is Tahoe Bike Month.

Start planning to get your bikes ready and your teams organized for the event.  More details will be forth coming to help you get both your bike and teams prepared.  If you do not receive the Tahoe Cycling News (the monthly online newsletter) then go to www.TahoeBike.org and opt in so that you can also receive the Tahoe Challenge Daily Spin.  The Daily Spin will give you important notices, list the daily prize winners, and have discount coupons and more valuable information.

Hi Tahoe Bike Buddies,

While many of us are still sliding on the snow, some of us are already riding our bikes or planning to in the very near future.

This season we will be seeing more construction of bikeways and that is a good thing.  Here are a couple of projects to mention now:  Highway 50 Bike Lanes from El Dorado Beach to Ski Run Blvd., (caution more traffic congestion), Van Sickle Connector Trail from the Park to the Tahoe Rim Trail; and we are hopeful the bike path from Stateline Blvd. to Roundhill Pines Resort gets built this season.  There are more bikeway projects in various planning stages and funding cycles.  The Coalition is doing its part to help move these projects forward and will keep you posted on the progress.

Next month, the new Lake Tahoe Bikeway Map will be out and we are stoked about it and believe you will too.  We changed the name because the map is much more than trails and the word 'bikeways' is more inclusive of the paved and unpaved bicycle facilities growing in the region. We have improved the accuracy of the map and included more single track trails.  The online version will be easier to read and printable - all this free to you and our visitors.  And, there will be more surprises and values coming along.

Please visit our Map sponsors and thank them for their support of the Map, the Bike Coalition and bicycling in the Tahoe region.  Without their financial support the map would not be possible to produce and certainly not for FREE.

Surprisingly, there are still a lot of people not getting this newsletter and are out of the loop about all the great plans, events and actions helping to make Tahoe a more bicycle-friendly community and destination.  Please forward this email to your friends and family members so they too know about the good news.  Also, by signing up for the Tahoe Cycling News they will also get the Tahoe Bike Challenge Daily Spin - a daily update about the Tahoe Bike Challenge full of announcements, prizes, discounts, events and the party.

Bicycle events in the area can now be posted on our calendar of events and we encourage organizers to do so.  Thank you all and see ya on a bikeway.

Keepin it real and rollin,

Ty Polastri
