Public Meetings For Your Input

Proposed Ballot Measure to Redistribute Recreation Fundscrack1
On Thursday, June 16, from 5-7 pm in the Cedar Room, at the South Lake Tahoe Parks & Rec. building on Rufus Allen Blvd., the Bike Coalition and El Dorado County supervisor, Norma Santiago, will host an informal public meeting to discuss the proposed November ballot measure seeking to redistribute Measure S funds.

John Upton, administrator of the Joint Powers Authority (JPA), who is responsible for complying with Measure S mandates, will be present to share the contents of the proposed measure and answer any questions.  The basic changes to the original Measure S, which was approved in 2000, include redistributing the accruing bicycle maintenance funds so that $500,000 of those funds can be spent on renovating the youth ball fields, with the remaining funds to be used for new bike path maintenance, and maintenance for bicycle paths built before 2000.  Maintenance of pre-2000 bike paths was not provided for in the original Measure S.

It is important that members of the community be sufficiently informed about this proposed measure and have an opportunity to voice their opinions, concerns and suggestions. Refreshments will be provided.

The JPA will meet on June 30, 2011, at 9 am in the El Dorado County Public Library meeting room, located on Rufus Allen Blvd., to make a final decision on whether to place the measure on November's ballot.

Greenway Bikeway Update Presentation
The California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) has scheduled aGrenwyPrst public informational meeting to give an update on the much awaited Tahoe Greenway bike project.  The presentation will be made by Sue Rae Ireland, Greenway project manager, on Wednesday, June 15, from 6-8 pm at the US Forest Service Headquarters on 35 College Drive.

This project phase will describe a 4 mile shared-use trail from Sierra Track neighborhood to the Van Sickle Bi-State Park located under the Heavenly Mountain Resort gondola.

Your input is an essential element in the process to help ensure this important bikeway serves the community by becoming the spine for arterial connectivity to neighborhoods, schools, jobs, shopping districts, and recreational areas.

For more information, you may contact Sue Rae at sirelan@tahoe.ca.gov or by phone at 530-525-9137.

Hi Tahoe Bike Buddies,

Yes, the second newsletter in the same month.  There is so much going on in our Tahoe Bike World that I find it necessary and relevant to share with you the activities and meetings available for your participation.  In fact, these events provide the opportunity for you to help shape our Tahoe Bike legacy and transform our cycling community for generations to enjoy.

There are public input meetings, a single track trail workshop and a party.  Imagine that the Bike Coalition is having a party.  Yes, we are in need of having some fun too.  The Coalition works tirelessly on bicycle advocacy issues and helps move our region to become more bicycle friendly and sustainable -- most of the time at the expense of making time for fun as a organization. So we hope you will come to the party tomorrow and celebrate with us the riding accomplishments of many and the arrival of sunshine.  And, I want you to know we are planning an informal fun ride and BBQ this summer.  Stay tuned for the fun.

I look forward to partying with you tomorrow, seeing you at the meetings and workshop, and on the trails doing what we love.

Happy Trails,

Ty Polastri

President, LTBC
