Tour de Nez director, Tim Healon, invited many bicycle leaders from throughout Northern Nevada to assemble and share their success stories.  In all, over 93 people showed up representing bicycle advocates, retailers, elected officials, and governmental agencies.

Denis Coyne, Coalition founding member and owner of Bike Habitat in Carson Valley, presented the Coalition's accomplishment highlights.  According to Tim Healon, "it was a really great opportunity for us to find out about all the bike related 'stuff' and projects going on".

Also in attendance were elected officials:  State Assemblyman Bobzien, Reno Council Person Aiazzi, and Sparks Council Person Ratti.

As a follow up, a web site will be built to offer each groups mission, contact info, web address, and a master schedule of events for the bike world.  The Coalition will keep you posted with the developments.

logo  Revised Bike/Ped Master Plan Nears Completion
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization are updating the Lake Tahoe Region Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan in close collaboration with local jurisdications, agencies, and the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition.

This plan is a regional document to help guide and inform the various agencies in the Basin on how to plan, build, fund and maintain bike/ped facilities and programs that can help build a world-class bike/ped community and destination in Lake Tahoe.

This spring/early summer will be an opportunity for the public to review the plan and offer comments and suggestions.  We will announce the public comment dates and locations when they are made available.  Please be sure to attend this meeting and comment period - it's your bicycle and pedestrian community that is being planned for.
Volunteers Needed

New events and more fun require community support and volunteers.  This year the Coalition is being bold in producing the first Tahoe Bike Day Parade & Festival and it will take a community to plan and produce this event to everyone's hope and dreams for success.

Imagine a bike parade downtown with friends and family riding together and then coming to the festival for good vibs, information, demos, and a Celebration of Tahoe's Cycling Spirit.

Help us build a new event that is fun and exciting for our community - volunteer! For now, you can contact Ty at biketahoe@aol.com to express your interest and/or read in the next E-Newsletter more details.

Bike Racks to Arrive
Yes, the City of SLT authorized the fabrication of 25 U-shaped bike racks and they are expected to arrive any day.  According to City Bicycle Coordinator Stan Hill, "if we are pleased with the racks, and there is a demand for more, then we can reorder another 25 with the balance of funds remaining that are earmarked for bike racks."

The racks will be installed at City facilities and some will be available for businesses within the city Limits.  Businesses interested in applying for a free bike rack may contact Ty at biketahoe@aol.com for more information.

The Coalition would like to extend its congratulations to the City Council members for their continued support and development of the community's bicycle friendliness.  The racks will help foster more bicycle use among residents and visitors who will be able park and lock their bikes at several new locations.
