Petition for Repaving Shoulder
Bicycle/Pedestrian advocates in the Tahoe region are asking people to sign a petition for the repaving of a seriously deteriorated shoulder on Hwy 89, between Cherry Street and Silver Street in Homewood, California. This section of Caltrans jurisdiction has repeatedly been neglected by them and is in such hazardous condition that it is unsafe for pedestrian and bicyclist use - forcing them into the traffic lanes. The petition can be a useful tool to coalesce public opinion and make a collected request for Caltrans to repave this section and thereby increase safety, access, and connectivity for residents and visitors, while also diminishing the possibility of serious injury.
Your Input Need - Homewood Multi-Use Trail
Tahoe City PUD has two alternate alignments and they are seeking your input to better understand the needs and concerns of our community. You can visit www.tahoecitypud.com for more information. The Coalition will also review and evaluate the two alignments for safety, connectivity, ease of use, and possible impacts on environment and economy. |

Cycling 4 Cancer to Arrive
In June, 27 college students left Maryland on their bikes and are heading for the West Coast. They will be arriving in So. Lake Tahoe on Sunday, July 26. They will be spending the night at St. Theresas Church. The Coalition is planning on welcoming them by hosting a pasta dinner in their honor.
The time and location of the dinner and presentation are being planned. Anyone with a dinner venue and a desire to help with cooking, serving or cleaning up may contact Ty at biketahoe@aol.com. Dinner details will announced ASAP. |
Share the Road Sticker
A new sticker promoting sharing the road between motorists and cyclists has been produced and is available at bike shops throughout the basin. Be sure to get yours and display it prominently and proudly.
Notice we added a passenger to the auto to encourage "Sharing The Ride". |
Cycling's Economic Impact
ENTERSPORT LLC, a sport marketing company, has been presenting it's survey findings about Tahoe's cycling visitors to community, business, and tourism stakeholders in an effort to educate them about the value of cycling tourism and the need to build and improve bicycle facility connectivity and safety to increase this growing and valuable tourism segment.
Organizations and professional groups interested in this marketing summary presentation may contact ENTERSPORT at entersport@aol.com to schedule a presentation. |
Bike Friendly Community Interest Grows
Over the past two months, representatives from the LT Bike Coalition have made presentations and offered guidelines and assistance to help bike advocate committees in Reno, NV, North Lake Tahoe, and Carson City, NV to take the necessary steps in becoming designated as Bicycle Friendly Communities.
At a recent north shore presentation, Steve Teshara, Ex. Director, North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, offered his agnecy's support to assist the Coalition in its efforts to get North Tahoe nationally designated as a Bicycle Friendly Community. The Coalition and the NLTRA will work together to assemble the required data for the application. Once complete, the application is then submitted to the League of American Bicyclists for their evaluation, decision and feedback.
This represents an important step toward the Coalition meeting its declared goal of having the Tahoe basin becoming nationally designated as a Bicycle Friendly Region on or before 2012. |
Hey Tahoe Bike Buddies:
I trust with summer in high gear that you and your family and friends are getting some quality time to ride your bikes. There are a lot of visitors in the area who are not familiar with our community and how to best navigate to their lodging and recreation destinations.
Please be extra patient, courteous and cautious while riding. And you can be a Tahoe Cycling Ambassador to those who are seeking best rides and routes on how to get around. You can suggest they get a copy of our Tahoe Bike Trail Map at any bike shop.
Wear Your Helmet. Be Safe. Drink Water and Enjoy the Ride!
