Coalition Expands Reach and Influence

The LTBC is expanding its reach in the basin with representation on the North Shore.  Shelley Purcell, co-founder of Peddle There Thursdays, and her capable team is on board as the Coalition's eyes, ears, and pedal power.  Shelley's Team will help expand the Coaliton's influence in the region and increase its campacity to more effectively understand the issues and challenges in North Shore, and help advance our mission for a more bicycle friendly region and sustainable community.

Thank you team Shelley for an outstanding job with B2WSP Week and last year's Bike Film Festival.

National Trails Day & Ground Breaking

Saturday, June 6, is American Hiking Society National Trails Day.  For this event, a ground breaking ceremony will take place at Van Sickle State Park, directly under the Heavenly Gondola at 9:00am. This Ceremony marks the newest trail building project, the Dagget Summit Trail System, from the Van Sickle Unit of the Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park (near Stateline, NV) to the Tahoe Rim Trail.

This connector trail marks an exceptionally exciting moment in the Tahoe Rim Trail System as it will provide greater accessibility to the Rim Trail for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians.  For more information and to volunteer visit www.tahoerimtrail.org.

The Coalition is particularly interested in seeing bike trails, paved and native surfaces, be built on this site.  We plan to express our interests in, and support of, connected loop trails that are fun and easily accessbile for our residents and visitors.  This park can be a tremendous asset to our community and we invite your input and support in helping it become that.  More information will be coming as the park moves forward.

New Bike Emblems Coming!

We are moving forward with our city collaboration to paint bike emblems on bike routes within the City limits. Bike routes are streets in neighborhoods that can more efficiently and safely connect cyclists to recreation, schools, and shopping areas.

This project will paint emblems on the streets to help increase motorists' awareness that cyclists are traveling the streets.

Saw Mill Bike Bridge Installed!

During Bike2Work, School, Play Week the bike bridge spanning the Upper Truckee River was installed.  This is part of Saw Mill Bike Project 1B. El Dorado County indicates they hope to have it paved and ready for use during the month of June.  Phase II of the project calls for a Class 1 Bike Path along Saw Mill Road to Lake Tahoe Blvd.  We'll keep you posted when the bridge is open for use.

Hey Tahoe Bike Buddies:

The success of Bike2Work, School, Play Week has us rolling into high gear for Tahoe's Cycling Season.  The participation by so many clearly indicates that we as a community understand the importance of cycling for our community, environment and our own well being.

We are working on plans for next year.  We see an opportunity of using our momentum from this event and build it into a much larger and sustainable campaign with a series of events, business tie-ins, and way more fun.

If you are a business, an organization or a group of dedicated cyclists who would like to help build Tahoe's cycling future, then I invite you contact me.  Now is the time for the real work - planning our future.

Thank you and thank each other for putting the rubber on the road - our presence and actions are demonstrating our commitment to moving toward the vision we hold for this sacred place.  Ride On!

Keepin it real and rollin,
