Hey Tahoe Bike Buddies,
It's peak summer fun time and I can imagine many of you have been enjoying quality rides with family, friends, and newly met friends while on the road or your favorite dirt trails.

I have just returned from a trip to my old riding grounds in Marin County and was blown away with the significant increase in cyclists on the roads.  I started out with longtime friends, Scot and Allain, and by the time we reached Point Reyes Station, and the bakery, we were 8 cyclists among 50 who also shared common interests of cycling the back roads of West Marin.  Too much fun.

And, more cycling fun and news follows in this issue of E-News.

Enjoy and Ride On!

These highway warning signs have not been present in South Lake Tahoe until your Bike Coalition made a request of Caltrans (California Dept. of Transportation) for their installation.  The signs are one way to help bring attention to motorists that bicyclists are traveling on the same road as they and have the same right to the roads. (Bicyclists are not obliged to travel on the road shoulders).

As bicycle use continues to increase in our community, and there remain insufficient bike lanes on our highways, the Coalition wanted to at least, in the immediate short term, to get these warning signs placed on Hwy 50 coming into South shore and on Hwy 89 going to Luther Pass -- both highways receiving high bicycle use by locals and visitors.

I believe sometimes it is as easy as making requests to get what you want.  The Coalition is making a lot of requests these days.  Stay tuned for more upcoming annoucements.
Heads Up!  Bike/Ped Master Plan Revision
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) will be revising its Regional Bike/Ped Master Plan in 2009 and your input is encouraged and highly valued.  I bring this to your attention now so that you can begin thinking about concerns, issues, and suggested improvements that you would like to offer for consideration.

I will notify you about the public comment periods and locations as they become know so that you can participate in the process.
Building the Tahoe Cycling Community
Do you imagine bike lanes on the roads and trails through the forests so you can bike more safely and frequently across town or just let your spirits fly?  Then what happens?  Do you find yourself frustrated or pointing to the agencies who are not taking care of business to build the bicycle community you imagine?  How is this working for you?  No change right?

Well, have you considered a different tactic of joining a winning team who is 'putting their rubber on the road' and producing positive change and measurable results for our bicycle community?  If not, then why not?
