NCA e-notes    Monthly Electronic Newsletter of the Newfoundland Club of America
March 2011
Greetings! ,

The Newfoundland Club of America (NCA) is recognized by the American Kennel Club as the "Parent Club" for the Newfoundland breed.  The NCA is the ONLY organization in the United States devoted solely to the protection and preservation of the Newfoundland breed. We are their voice. Is your voice part of our chorus? If not- why not? Please consider joining the Regional Club in your area, and joining the NCA. Be a part of giving back to the breed that has given us all so much.

Heroes Wanted
AKC Humane Fund LogoHeroes, like dogs, come in all shapes and sizes. Since 2000, thousands of dog lovers have nominated special canines for the AKC Humane Fund Awards for Canine Excellence (ACE). ACE nominees range from skilled assistance dogs and law enforcement K-9s that keep U.S. citizens safe to Search & Rescue dogs who have aided in recovery missions. Equally important are the Therapy dogs who provided much needed comfort in the wake of tragic national events such as the attacks on 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina as well as the companions who aspire to be champion leg warmers at the foot of their owner's bed at night. A Newfoundland, Villa, was honored in 1983 - Barbara Bush, wife of Vice President George Bush, bestowed the Ken-L Ration Dog Hero of the Year Award upon Villa, a 15O-pound Newfoundland, for the heroic rescue of 12-year-old Andrea Anderson during a blinding snow storm last February. During the ceremony at the Vice Presidential Mansion, Mrs. Bush commended Villa for her act of courage and devotion, as Villa's proud owner, Lynda Veit of Villas, New Jersey, stood beaming. READ MORE
DNA Collection for Research
DNAThanks to a generous contribution by the NCA Charitable Trust, DNA submissions to the OFA DNA bank will be collected at this year's National Specialty Show at no charge.
You do not need to pre-register for the National clinic, but it is helpful.
You can print out the CHIC forms to complete and bring with you. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the links to the forms. Print out the DNA application and the health survey, fill them out and bring them with you to the National. The NCA will submit them with the blood to OFA. This is the procedure for National clinics only. If you have concerns about confidentiality, you may send the health surveys in separately to OFA. Just let us know at the clinic and we will mark the paperwork accordingly.

For those that have submitted DNA on their dogs already, THANK YOU!!!!! Please remember to keep the health records on those dogs updated by sending OFA a quick email.
