NCA e-notes -DRAFT do not forward  Monthly Electronic Newsletter of the Newfoundland Club of America
April 2009
Hello,

As the guardians of this wonderful breed, Newf fanciers often find themselves in a position of providing breed education to prospective puppy owners, and the general public. A great source to keep on hand is the Newfoundland Puppy Information Center - www.newfpuppy.com and the NCA Breeder Referral Hotline at 1-866-NCA-NEWF (1-866-622-6393). Both of these resources are great ways to steer new fanciers to a wealth of information available from the NCA.

DNA Blood Draw at the National Specialty
DNADNA Clinic at the National Specialty will be held Tuesday thru Friday.  The clinic is 10.00 and that includes shipping of the blood which the NCA gladly covers.  The DNA Clinic will be set up in the grooming building but you can make arrangements for "House Calls" at your set up if necessary.  Arrangements for "house calls" need to be made through Dr. Jenny Zablotny.

The DNA Clinic asks that you go to the CHIC Website and preprint and download your forms prior to the National.  You will still be able to get your blood drawn at the clinic it just streamlines the process if you take care of the paperwork ahead of time. If you have any questions regarding the DNA Clinic please contact Jenny Zablotny.

Estate Planning
In the event that a pet outlives its owner, family members may find themselves in a predicament as to what to do with the pet or pets. The survivors may not know how to care for exotic pets, if you have them, or may not want to deal with a dog as large as a Newf or several Newfs. If you have family or a friend that is willing to take on a Newf, don't leave it to be dealt with until after the fact. NCA members Jennifer Zablotny, Debbie Jordan and Andy Zinsmeyer from the Charitable Trust provide information and resources on strategies for dealing with estate planning.
