| September 1, 2009 Norman Roe Owner of Synergy Broadband
Larry and Norman Roe, owner the Ann Arbor based Synergy Broadband, discussed various aspects of Communications Technology in light of the Internet's 40th anniversary on September 2.
Synergy was the first to bring broadband wireless to the Ann Arbor area and primarily works with setting up and maintaining internet connections to area businesses. Due to Synergy's early start in the field Roe has remained on the leading edge of Communications Technology in the Ann Arbor area.
Synergy is a good fit for the Ann Arbor businesses scene, as an Internet Service Provider. According to Roe, "Big companies are not able to adjust and really make it a commercially viable concern for businesses." Whereas a "small company is nimble enough that they can light up a building or 2 or 3."
Synergy was able to provide service where the large companies couldn't by "[creating] wireless bridges to few of the underserved buildings around town," explained Roe.
With the implementation of bundles Synergy has expanded their service options. The most significant of these is the inclusion of Session Initiated Protocol lines, or SIP lines. These SIP lines will eventually be replacing the traditional copper phone wires. SIP lines are an Internet Provided based phone system which costs significantly less per line than the copper phone lines, but will still function in much the same way.
Synergy excels assessing the business and their connection needs and desires and finding a way to equip them with the adequate services.

| September 8, 2009 Marisa Smith CEO of The Whole Brain Group LLC

The Whole Brain Group is making the world less stressful-and a more paper-free-place.
The Whole Brain Group provides services to help businesses move from paper systems to entirely electronic databases, This is done through analysis of the businesses and pairing their organization with the proper program. Often times The Whole Brain Group will design a unique program to deal directly with the organization.
"In a smaller company, you only have so many resources and you've got to use those resources as efficiently as possible," said Smith.
The more online and electronic tools available, the more companies can focus on what they are good at as opposed to fixing business problems or doing tedious filing, paperwork, etc.
Most notably The Whole Brain Group developed AccreditStation, a program utilized nationally by various institutions to aide in the management of accreditation projects.
Currently The Whole Brain Group is collaborating with other businesses in the area to create a more diverse set of services. If the Whole Brain Group can't help with a specific problem, Smith assures that the company will find someone who can.

| September 15, 2009 Joe Miskovich Founder and CEO of Triton Storm Water Solutions

In another enjoyable and informative segment Larry discussed with Joe Miskovich the foundation, technology, accomplishments and future of Triton Stormwater Solutions.
Miskovich started Triton after encountering his own flooding problem at home.
"It looked like somebody was pouring chocolate milk into the lake," described Miskovich. A stream of water after a storm was eroding the sand and sediment from his property as well as that of his neighbor's. After doing some research Miskovich devised the best way to handle the problem was through an arch-like chamber system, which Triton adopted and improved on.
Triton uses sections of what can best be described as bright green piping cut in half. These are placed open end down on a sand/gravel basin and buried underground. The water seeps into the basin where it is stored in the chambers until it is naturally absorbed into the ground.
The chambers are constructed from a soy-based resin and are significantly, larger, stronger, more cost effective and eco-friendly as compared to similar products that use a petroleum base. They are "strong enough to be under a parking lot or a playground," said Miskovich.
Larry and Miskovich also briefly discussed that Triton is in talks to work with the Make It Right organization. This group was founded by Brad Pitt with the goal of rebuilding New Orleans lower 9th Ward. The group designs and constructs buildings that are specifically adapted to the high water level and flooding issues in the area.
If there are problems with flooding in any area, commercial, governmental or residential, Triton understands the nuances of each new job and adjusts the system accordingly. For more information visit Tritonsws.com

Association for Vascular Access 23rd Scientific Conference 2009 By Sandy Eiler

Attending
the September conference for our client AVA proved to be enlightening for me. As many of you may know, my background for 25 years
was in nursing prior to Eiler Communications.
When I left nursing 22 years
ago, technology was not prevalent. PICC lines, CVS, and midline lines
were not in my vocabulary. Using ultrasound at the bedside to guide the
placement of these catheters was unheard of. Times have greatly
changed.
How
far had technology carried the delivery of new healthcare? The
advancement of new technologies to the delivery of the latest of new
advancements is widespread. The attendance for this conference
increased despite the down economy. To me this signified the importance
to AVA's membership to know the best and safest delivery systems for
patients.
I
was totally impressed with the participation of 1,200 attendees. These
woman and men were enthusiastic, collegial and collaborative. Their
enthusiasm was exhilarating. The overall theme was "What is learned in
Vegas, Does not stay in Vegas."
The
attendees wanted to totally absorb what was being presented by AVA and
the abundant sponsors of the conference. There was significant
representation by the international members, from Netherlands, Italy,
Spain, China, Japan, Australia and Canada.
I was in total awe with how far technology has advanced since I left the healthcare field. I encourage you to visit http://www.avainfo.org. | |
| Playing Ball With Legends: The Story and Stories of Don Lund
University of Michigan alumnus and prominent businessman James Robert Irwin has written a book entitled Playing Ball With Legends: The Story and Stories of Don Lund, a biography honoring Michigan baseball legend Don Lund.
In
an easy narrative, Irwin, CEO of Wolverine Technical Staffing, tells
the story of Lund's amazing life and achievements. From Lund's time as
a Michigan athlete to his career with the Detroit Tigers, Irwin allows
the public a glimpse into the life of a remarkable man.
"After
my father, Don Lund is the most important man in my life," said Bill
Freehan, former Detroit Tigers catcher. "Don was the one who taught us
how to win, both on and off the field."
Lund is a legend on
multiple levels. He is considered the best Detroit High School athlete
of his time and was a three-sport (baseball, football and basketball)
letter winner at the University of Michigan. Lund's professional
baseball career began in 1945 with the Brooklyn Dodgers and ended in
1954 with the Detroit Tigers, where he became the only person ever to
serve the same major league club, as a player, a scout, a coach and a
member of top front office management.
Lund has been inducted
into the Michigan Hall of Honor and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame
for his time as an athlete and for his leadership as a coach. Among
those he calls friends are former teammate Jackie Robinson and former
Tigers Al Kaline and George Kell.
