"Worry is using your imagination to create something you don't want"

  Abraham

When this quote was sent to me I just had to write about it for this month's newsletter. I am not sure you can completely stop worrying but you can be much more aware of it.  Once the awareness sets in you get to decide what to do with those worrisome thoughts.

How much time each day do you spend worrying?  Are you even aware of it?  Once the worry mode begins our thoughts take off running with many scenarios, before we know it a great deal of time has been wasted and exhaustion occurs playing out all the possibilities.

It is one thing to look at a situation from all sides quickly deciding what works best but completely another to make you crazy with farfetched worry. Many years ago I was told what you fear most you will create.  The more energy you put on something the more likely it is to happen.  You become a magnet for what you think about most.

The friend that explained this concept to me told me about her older sister who was a heroin addict.  As a little girl my friend hid behind the couch watching her older sister shoot up.  From that moment on my friend was terribly afraid of needles, imagine her horror when ten years later she became diabetic and had to use a needle every day.

So when it gets rough on a plane ride rather than let my mind go to all the scary thoughts, I close my eyes, take a deep breath and imagine myself at my destination, greeting the people I am going there to visit, imagining the nice time I am going to have.

The trick is when you feel yourself begin to worry train yourself to look at the complete opposite of worry, think about the best outcome and notice how your entire body relaxes and a smile may even appear on your face.  Doesn't that seem like a better frame of mind to be in?

From this calm and relaxed frame of mind you can move on to whatever needs to be done next and still have the energy to keep moving forward.  Why wouldn't you want your days to feel calm and relaxed?  Worry is a complete waste of energy and time. Do you really want to give in to it?

Take the time to slow down and evaluate the situation you are worrying about, so you can make informed decisions. Maybe all you need to do is gather more information about a situation.  Take control and do what you need to do to find the feeling of calm again.

It's when you are rushing and jumping to conclusions that you get all stirred up and worry sets in.  You affect not only yourself but everyone around you. We all know what being around someone that is worried feels like, not good!

Give yourself and those around you a break.  Become the example of calm not the exhausting freaked out energy drain on yourself and others.  Stop right now and say yes to being energized and worry free!

One more quote, " Worry is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but it won't get you anywhere."  from Glenn Turner.
